Plot Summaries

edit

I feel like this article should include plot synopsis's or summaries for each individual story arc, similar to how Ultimate Spider-man 2024 does it too SinisterRB2022 (talk) 01:33, 5 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

After the second TPB is released, I recommend separating the detailed summaries into separate Wikipedia pages. Otherwise, this is going to get really long really fast, with each summary going appx. 700 words. GimmeChoco44 (talk) 07:04, 24 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
We've hit appx. 1800 words for the plot. For this ongoing series, we need to trim this down to 200-300 words per TPB Volume (we have 2 conformed so far -- 1-6; 7-14) to keep this manageable. Any thoughts? GimmeChoco44 (talk) 02:21, 29 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Calling for additional editor input on this issue. After 15 issues, the summary is 2100+ words, far exceeding any book or series plot guidelines. GimmeChoco44 (talk) 12:48, 15 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Completed plot summary reductions as per guidelines of MOS:PLOT and Wikipedia:PLOTSUMNOT. This page should not function as a full recap of all plot points and events. GimmeChoco44 (talk) 16:28, 30 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

  • ... that in Absolute Batman, the Joker is a billionaire who has never laughed?
  • Source: Rather than an independent chaos-causer, Jack Grimm V is a coldly calculating billionaire with a generational fortune and a global web of influence. He has never been known to laugh.[21]
  • ALT1: ... that in Absolute Batman, Batman's chest emblem detaches into a battle axe and his cowl ears serve as removable throwing knives?
  • Source: In the costume, every element is functional and self-built. The chest emblem detaches into a battle axe, the cowl ears are removable throwing knives, and the cape consists of articulated mechanical tethers rather than fabric, capable of extending into hooks and spikes.[12]
  • ALT2: ... that in Absolute Batman, the Riddler, the Penguin, Catwoman, Killer Croc, and Two-Face are all childhood friends of Bruce Wayne?
  • Source: The Joker is reconceived as an entrenched, wealthy antagonist, while several characters who are villains in the main continuity (Killer Croc, the Riddler, Catwoman, and the Penguin) are Bruce's close childhood friends.
  • Waylon Jones (Killer Croc), Eddie Nigma (the Riddler), Oswald Cobblepot (the Penguin), Harvey Dent (Two-Face), and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) each knew Bruce and his parents before the events of the series.[29][30]
  • ALT3: ... that in Absolute Batman, Alfred Pennyworth is an MI6 agent who has never worked as a butler?
  • Source: Alfred Pennyworth is reimagined as a veteran MI6 special agent rather than a domestic servant, arriving in Gotham on assignment to investigate the terrorist organization the Party Animals.[13]

They definitely do. I have struck all of them per DYKFICTION. @ModlordD: Please propose hooks that have meaningful real-world connections and not simply plot-related or in-universe information. Themes and motifs condensing

edit

I'd like to open a discussion about the recent edits that significantly condensed the Themes and motifs section. I've already been in contact with the editor who made these changes (@GimmeChoco44), and they've suggested bringing it here.

The edit summary cited "excessive detail" and noted that "Wikipedia is not a place for essays, regardless of sourced quotes." I get that concern. But I think some of what was cut has a genuine case for staying in.

Themes and motifs sections aren't unusual on comic book articles. Black Widow (Natasha Romanova) and Iron Man are both featured articles with comparable sections. The removed content was drawn from published interviews with Snyder and Dragotta, and it covers the ideological framing that makes this series distinct from standard Batman continuity, which the sources discuss at length.

I'm not asking for a full revert. If the issue was the prose being too quote-heavy or essay-like in places, I'm open to reworking it. I just don't want the article stripped down to cast and plot when there's sourced, relevant material that could stay and greatly improve the article's scope. @Fiction Fanatic III @MrCtheChaotic @Bioshockdude Would appreciate your thoughts on this matter as you are top editors of this article ModlordD (talk) 00:34, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Keep the sourced information, but keep it condense to avoid going overboard with detail. Fiction Fanatic III 00:43, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
A Wikipedia page for an ongoing comic series can easily spiral out of control with details and turn into WP:FANCRUFT. Details should be limited to succinct descriptions and summarized when available to avoid WP:TOOMUCH information that is not of interest or value to the casual reader. In this case, if multiple areas of character design have been discussed by creators, it is the burden of the editor to decide which elements are most important to the reader and condense that information as much as possible.
If ModLordD feels that the current edits are too strict, it would benefit his argument to list examples from other characters on Wikipedia which show the same wide span of coverage. GimmeChoco44 (talk) 16:40, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I was asked for my thoughts on this on my talk page; from what I read of the old and new section, I question a few sources used (For example, is a student newspaper really a source that warrants inclusion in an analysis section?) But content wise I do believe this is best hashed out with a middle ground found between both parties here. @GimmeChoco44, could you briefly explain why you cut the bits you cut from the article more specifically (Beyond the general citing of policy, why do you feel these particular bits you cut ran afoul of policy?). I do believe it would help @ModlordD address their concerns more directly in regards to article content. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 00:24, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply. (1) Overall, the intricate details of the creative process outweigh the substance of the article; (2) In an ongoing series, which could conceivably run hundreds of issues, assigning this amount of study to behind the scenes discussion is not merited and cannot be maintained as different creators become involved in the project; (3) As cited in my comments about, the deep-dive into this topic fits the criteria of "TooMuch" and "Fancruft", or at best becomes an academic study not suited for WIkipedia's purposes.
I've asked ModLordD to provide comparable examples from other ongoing comic series articles to see if there's a precedent I'm not aware of. GimmeChoco44 (talk) 01:27, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Subheadings for arcs?

edit

This will make the plot section neater and clearer. I recommend separating the paragraphs into each arc's name and run, ie. Issues #1-5: The Zoo

Issues #6-7: Absolute Zero

Issues #8-14: Abomination

Issue #15: The Joker

Issue #16: Bat Out Of Hell

Issue #17-18: The Seventh Kingdom

Issue #19-: The Straw Man

Right now it seems as if certain events are happening jn the same issue, or missing important events like Joker saying he's sending in Bane at the end of Issue 5 / The Zoo, which isnt mentioned in the article until about issue 7/8 which is misleading ~2026-28180-17 (talk) 17:00, 9 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

The article is supposed to be a comprehensive summary of the entire series, not of each arc. Additionally, since some "arcs" are only 2-3 issues long, the proposed format would create a standard for 20+ arc headings by issue 50. Every plot development cannot be addressed. If a particular storyline merits enough attention via awards, adaptations, and external references, a separate article for that arc can be created.
Examples of story arcs from ongoing series which received details articles are The Judas Contract, The Death of Superman, and Batman: Year One. GimmeChoco44 (talk) 04:43, 11 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
maybe a separate article should be made just for plot with all the arcs summarised. Cos it's a very popular book right now and people may get confused by the clumps of information ~2026-28652-25 (talk) 20:54, 12 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
