AN/MPN-14

edit

The article indicates the MPN 14 is a GCA that "can" be configured as a mobile radar approach control radar. The GCA was the AN/MPN-13, housed in a single van, with all electronics, including azimuth and elevation radars for the precision approach (identical to AN/FPN-16) and primary and secondary survaillance radars. Small PPI scopes only were provided for the arrival controllers and AZ/EL scopes for the final controllers. The AN/MPN-14 added a second (expandable) van with more room for controllers and larger sized PPI scopes for approach and arrival controllers. --Lineagegeek (talk) 22:56, 9 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Article name

edit

The article name has bothered me for quite a while. No other JETDS named equipment uses an article name that’s badly truncated. Does the group of all ground-based mobile radar navigation systems fit neatly into a “radar family”? There are several articles that group some radars into “families” (usually, a single type of radar made by one company that are modified versions of a previous radar), and those articles are named accordingly. For instance, there is the AN/APG-63 radar family and the AN/APG-65 radar family. Both are lists of several fire-control radars, but they are grouped by manufacturer and developmental lineage. If anything, the AN/MPN article does not fit a “family” concept. Maybe the article would be more aptly named List of military mobile navigation radars of the United States. I serious doubt anyone searching for military mobile radars will begin by typing the truncated “AN/MPN”. Anyone else have thoughts? — TadgStirkland401(TadgTalk-Email) 07:22, 12 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

It also doesn’t help that this article is wholly WP:UNREFERENCED. — TadgStirkland401(TadgTalk-Email) 07:25, 12 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Found multiple references to add, and so, overhauled the article completely. — TadgStirkland401(TadgTalk-Email) 23:04, 27 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
