Help
editHi, HurricaneHiggins and BennyOnTheLoose. Hope everything is going great. I'm trying to work on this article and I look at 2023 World Seniors Championship as a model for it. However, I'm struggling when it comes to finding sources to state how some players were selected to take part in this edition. Given that you wrote that other article, you may be able to help me. Besides, any help with anything else would also be welcome. Thanks in advance and kind regards, Alavense (talk) 15:52, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Alavense: I had a look in the May and June 2021 issues of Snooker Scene but didn't see anything about the basis of selection. I can send you the half-page Snooker Scene report though - do you use Wikipedia email? Regards. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 16:39, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
- That would be much appreciated if you could send it to me, BennyOnTheLoose. And, if at some point you have time to have a look at the prose, it would be awesome as well. Thank you very much, Alavense (talk) 16:46, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Alavense, I'd suggest looking through the news archives of the Seniors Snooker website. They typically have a lot of info about qualifiers. HurricaneHiggins (talk) 10:11, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, HurricaneHiggins! I will have a look at those. Kind regards, Alavense (talk) 10:18, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

Sources
- There is usually a fairly limited range of sources avaialble for these Seniors events. The Facebook page is the World Seniors Snooker official one so is OK, although not ideal. Phil Haigh is a respectable snooker journalist and the Metro source is fine. the other sources are, IMO, uncontroversial given the info that they support.
Copyvio Check
- Earwing's Copyvio Detector showed 18.7%. I reviewed all matches over 7% and found no issues, the matches were the title of the competition, attributed quotes, and some phrases acceptable per WP:LIMITED such as "of 85, 63 and 56"
Overview
- Spot check on "The 12th edition of the World Seniors Championship, first contested in 1991," - "12th edition" not confirmed by cited source. You could use this.
- Spot check on "it was held at the Crucible for the third consecutive year and sponsored for the third time by ROKiT" - "third consecutive year and sponsored for the third time" not confirmed by cited source.
- I added a note, so that everything said there is sourced. Let me know if you are happy with the result. Alavense (talk) 14:29, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Spot check on "A few of the invited players had to be replaced due to the travel restricitions imposed because of the COVID-19 pandemic." - no issues
- Spot check on "The 1980 world champion Cliff Thorburn was replaced by Patsy Fagan, who had won the 1977 UK Championship; Tony Drago was replaced by Tony Knowles, and Igor Figueiredo took Bob Chaperon's place" - no issues
- Optional - you could add a few words describing what ROKiT does. (I had to look up their website to find out). I mean a brief description like in 2025 World Snooker Championship which has "sponsored for the first time by technology company Halo Service Solutions"
- I should, but I really don't know how to say it. It appears that the first times that ROKiT sponsored these events, it was its ROKiT Phones branch, but now it would appear it's only ROKiT as a whole, and ROKiT apparently does a lot of things. I don't know how to sum that up. Alavense (talk) 14:29, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- That's fine. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 14:55, 3 September 2025 (UTC)

- Spot check on Prize fund - no issues.
Summary
- Spot check on"That match against Barry was my last competitive match ever. And what a way to finish here in the Crucible Theatre," said Taylor, referring to the venue in which he had become world champion in 1985." - no issues.
- Spot check on ""I'm really pleased with the way I cued. The last three weeks I've been going into the club for an hour every morning," Morgan said afterwards" - not a direct quote from the source, which has ""I'm really pleased with the way I cued. I have been practicing; the last three weeks I've been going into my club for an hour every morning."
- Spot check on ""I'm a bit speechless, I didn't think I'd get this emotional," said Lilley on receiving the trophy." - no issues.
- Optional - maybe something like "After receiving the trophy, Lilley dais, "I'm a bit speechless, I didn't think I'd get this emotional"." rather than "I'm a bit speechless, I didn't think I'd get this emotional," said Lilley on receiving the trophy"?
- "pinched victory" is a bit informal. Maybe it was for consonance with "Pinches".
- I rephrased it. Alavense (talk) 15:04, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
Main draw
- The snooker.org source doesn't include the seedings. You could add the WSS Facebook source, which has this info.
Century breaks
- As per source; no issues.
Infobox and Lead
- MOS:SNOOKER says "generally give scores in the same order that the players are mentioned in the sentence", so it would be " but lost 3–5 to David Lilley" I think.
- And it makes much more sense. Amended. Alavense (talk) 15:04, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
Images
- All free to use. Captions are OK.
- On my current laptop setup, the picture of White runs into the Main draw section, which makes it start to the right of his picture. Consider adding {{clear}} at the end of the Summary section.
Looks fine now. The breadth and depth is suitable given the limited sources available; I checked through the Snooker Scene coverage of the tournaent and didn't spot any notable ommissions. Well done. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 15:44, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
