Jiangsu tornado2016 Jiangsu tornado – to align with other tornado articles, such as 1997 Jarrell tornado and 1999 Bridge Creek-Moore tornado Wildfireupdateman :) (talk) 05:02, 5 February 2025 (UTC)  Relisting. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 12:42, 12 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Wildfireupdateman you may request this move at RM:Requests to revert undiscussed moves. I looked at the article's history and the original title, 2016 Jiangsu tornado, was moved without a discussion in 2017. You may make the request under revert undiscussed move. @Dora the Axe-plorer - actually that is NOT recommended: Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR [...] If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.(emphisis added). That being said, I was about to move this page (as uncontested), but then reverted that closure, because of the reason provided in the prior move edit summary suggests that a discussion should actually take place, but I wasn't in a place to better research policy and precedent to verify that this would indeed be the proper move. I'll try to get a more coherent rational later today, but would not be opposed to an experienced RM closer taking whatever action they see fit. TiggerJay(talk) 15:28, 12 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Right... I didnt read that part. Anyways I support the move per nom's comments and the original move was undiscussed Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 15:34, 12 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: no consensus. There seems to be 3 different proposals going around: "2016 Funing tornado", "Funing tornado", and "Fucheng tornado". No concrete consensus on either one of them. (closed by non-admin page mover) Jeffrey34555 (talk) 06:34, 24 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

2016 Jiangsu tornado2016 Funing tornado – More sources call this source the Funing tornado than the Jiangsu tornado - this is akin to calling, say, the Greenfield tornado, the 2024 Iowa tornado. I am not the best at Chinese geography but per COMMONNAME Funing tornado is the clear choice in my eyes. Support move per nomination Yobatna (talk) 04:45, 6 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I agree with a name change, but not to Funing, as Funing isnt 100% the right name, its Fucheng Quincy Gordon (talk) 06:06, 17 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

2016 Jiangsu tornado2016 Funing tornado – Like the previous one said, "Jiangsu tornado" doesn't make sense because that's name of the province. More sources also call in the "Funing tornado," including this research paper that focuses on the event. The reason for including the year is because another significant EF3 tornado struck Funing in 2023, killing 5 people. As for the "Fucheng" suggestion, I think they're referring to a town in Funing, although no sources mention it or use the name Fucheng, so this suggestion should be discarded.
Overall, the name Jiangsu tornado is too broad and not the WP:COMMONNAME; Funing tornado is much more appropriate and what most sources call it, and the year is probably necessary because of another significant tornado in the same area in 2023. Therefore, 2016 Funing tornado is the best option Yobatna (talk) 18:08, 16 July 2025 (UTC)  Relisting. Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 10:14, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Support per my previous proposal. Departure– (talk) 22:33, 23 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Support - The tornado is way more often referred to as the Funing Tornado, the Jiangsu province gets plenty of tornadoes as well, significant ones even. Quincy Gordon (talk) 10:31, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
