Raouf Abdel Rahman not excecuted?
editAccording to his dedicated wiki page his capture and death has been denied by a family member, but is mentioned in this article as fact... Raouf Abdel Rahman — Preceding unsigned comment added by 16:09, 27 June 2014 (talk • contribs) 94.31.38.226
Undiscussed name change
edit@Wikiman92783: Please do not change article names into original research titles. Discuss any attempts to do so first. The offensive has not been called an invasion by any reliable sources. If anything IS invaded Syria, not Iraq, as it was called Al Qaeda in Iraq until 2014. Ecrusized (talk) 11:43, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Northern Iraq offensive (June 2014) → Islamic State invasion of Iraq – The current title, although used by plenty of sources, is the least common and also too narrow. (Note: 2014 Islamic State invasion of Iraq is also a valid name for this article, although it’s cluttered. But provides clarity since the broader war in the country had lasted 4 years.) “Islamic State invasion of Iraq” is recognized and referenced much more widely and here’s why - “ISIS invasion of Iraq”: ~ 650,000 (plenty of mainstream & academic mentions) “June 2014 Northern Iraq offensive” ~ 4,000** (mostly niche, or echoing Wikipedia)
Furthermore, the offensive initially began in northern Iraq (Mosul), then most of the fighting and occupation extended into central and western Iraq, including Tikrit, Fallujah, and areas near Baghdad. Major news and academic sources overwhelmingly describe this event as a full scale invasion of the country by the group, not just a northern offensive. And there’s no naming convention that rejects the mention of invasion during historical events involving non-state actors. The proposed title is broader, more accurate, and aligns with common usage in reliable sources.

Title "invasion"
editI've reverted this page back to its old title "2014 Islamic State offensive in Iraq", ISIS originated in Iraq, and called itself Islamic State of Iraq until 2013. It can't be an invasion if its attacking the country it originated and existed within. I also haven't seen a single source which dubbed this offensive an invasion. Plus, ISIS was in control of large parts of Anbar, including Fallujah prior to the June 2014 offensive. Ecrusized (talk) 22:28, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
