For snooker stats, results, player records, etc. (up to 2004 when it came out at any rate) of this type,I cannon recommend highly enough the Cuesport Book of Professional Snooker by Eric N Hayton. Get your hands on a copy if you've got an interest in this subject!
It's not where I got all this information from - I already had it having pieced together an archive of my own,on and off,on computer starting in about 1994 or 1995. I'd been thinking of putting something out there online just to plug any gaps for anyone who was interested in this kind of stuff when the aforementioned book came out and did it instead!

Hi @Alavense, nice work on these snooker tournament articles. Also pinging co-nominator @Lee Vilenski I'll review this. IAWW (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

Spot check numbers based on this version. The checks will not be entirely random – I will check the texts which I think will most likely have source-text integrity issues.
[17a]:
doesn't support "higher-ranked players being seeded and given byes to the later rounds" and "The event featured a 32-player main draw". Ideally a secondary source would be used IAWW (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
[18a]:
primary source containing the results of the tournament, which doesn't support several of the statements. IAWW (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

doesn't support "The first stage, for amateurs and non-Tour professionals" IAWW (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

Unfortunately this spot check highlighted several issues. With more than half the checks having issues, I think this will need a full source-text integrity check before we can be confident no issues remain. As this article contains a lot of refs, that will take quite a long time, so it would be best done outside of the GA review. It's unfortunate because this article on first glace appears to be pretty much there on all the other criteria. I won't fail this yet as I would like to give the nominators a chance to respond and possibly discuss a path forward for this article. I will happily review if the TSI issues get fixed and this gets renominated. IAWW (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
Copyvio (Criterion 2d)

Earwig finds nothing. I'll check further on the spot check.
Scope (Criteria 3a, 3b)
edit
I think the "Background" section should be cut in half or even more. Most the information is only tangentially related to the subject of this article (relating to the World Snooker Championship generally rather than the 2004 edition). Only information that is important to understand the information on the 2004 edition, and information specifically about the 2004 edition, should remain, or the section is going into unnecessary detail.
Information can be moved to World Snooker Championship if it isn't there already, and a section hatnote (Template:Further information), linking to World Snooker Championship#History can be added. IAWW (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2025 (UTC)

Barry Pinches (pictured in 2016), who had never played in the second round before, led seven-time champion Stephen Hendry 11–9, but ended up losing 12–13.: The connective "but" does not separate independent clauses, so it should not have a comma before it. Alter the sentence by removing the comma or adding a "he" after the "but" for correct grammar. WP:CINS is a good essay explaining this. I'll fix any further instances of this issue myself. Suggestions (not needed for GA promotion)
editSuggest archiving all links to prevent link rot IAWW (talk) 13:26, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, It is a wonderful world. Thank you very much for taking the time to review the article. All the suggestions are noted and I will work on them. I also think, however, that it would be best to work on these outside the GA review, so please feel free to close it. Thanks again, Alavense (talk) 08:05, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
- No worries @Alavense. I would love to see this article get to GA, so let me know if you renominate and I'll try to give it a prompt review. IAWW (talk) 08:12, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
