History
editOn October 6, 2021, just after 9:15 a.m., three people were shot, including a teacher and a pair of students attending Mansfield Timberview High School, one of whom was left in critical condition.[3][4] A fourth victim, a pregnant teacher, accidentally wounded herself while trying to make an escape, and six shots were fired in total during the shooting.[5] The shooter was identified as Timothy George Simpkins, an 18-year-old senior Black male student.[6] He fled the scene but turned himself in later that day.[7] Simpkins faced three counts of assault with a deadly weapon,[8] and on July 20, 2023, he was found guilty of attempted capital murder.[9] On July 24, 2023, Simpkins was sentenced to twelve years in prison.[10] The shooting prompted authorities to monitor video feeds in real time and conduct random canine searches in classrooms.[11]
On January 13, 2025, a wounded victim of the school shooting was shot again in a separate incident and died.[12] The victim was identified as 19-year-old Zacchaeus Selby. In March 2025, 17-year-old Joshua Robinson was arrested and charged with Selby's murder.[13]
