Madina Sadigova or, in Azerbaijani, Mədinə Vasif qızı Sadıqova (born 6 January 2001) is an Azerbaijani karateka. Competing in kumite in the 55 kg division, Sadigova represents the Azerbaijan national team and the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Sports Organizations Association.[1][2] She became the first Azerbaijani woman to win a senior European karate title after winning the gold medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2026 European Karate Championships.[3][4]

Career

In 2022, Sadigova won the bronze medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games held in Konya, Turkey.[5] The same year, she finished third in the women's 55 kg event at the 2022 European Karate Championships in Gaziantep, Turkey.[6][7]

In 2023, she competed in the women's 55 kg event at the 2023 European Games in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. She finished third in her pool and did not advance to the semi-finals.[8] The same year, she competed in the women's 55 kg event at the 2023 World Karate Championships in Budapest, Hungary.[9]

In 2024, Sadigova won Azerbaijan's first gold medal of the tournament at the BRICS Sports Games held in Kazan, Russia.[10]

In 2025, she won the bronze medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In the bronze-medal bout, she defeated her Pakistani opponent 7–2 to reach the podium.[11][12]

At the 2026 European Karate Championships held in Frankfurt, Germany, Sadigova became European champion in the women's 55 kg event. She defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina's Nejra Sipović 5–4 in the semi-finals to reach the final.[13] In the final, she defeated Turkey's Zümra Rezzan İm 9–6 to win the gold medal.[14][15][16] With this result, she became the first Azerbaijani woman to win a senior European karate title.[3][4] At the same championships, she also won the bronze medal with the Azerbaijan women's kumite team, alongside Irina Zaretska, Gülay Orujova and Aysu Aliyeva.[17]

Personal life

Sadigova was born on 6 January 2001 in Ganja, Azerbaijan. From 2018 to 2022, she studied karate coaching and teaching at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sport.[1] Her father, Vasif Sadigov, died in 2010 while serving as a captain in the Azerbaijani Army.[10][18]
