At the meeting of the Regents last night Prof. Frank H. Snow was formally elected Chancellor of the Kansas State University. Prof. Snow has accepted the high and honorable position.

At the regular meeting of the board of regents last week Chancellor Snow was given a leave of absence for the remainder of this year. The action was prompted by the condition of the Chancellor's health. Mr. W. C. Spangler was made executive agent of the board with power to act in the absence of the chancellor. This really means that Mr. Spangler will be the acting chancellor during the coming year.

The regents of the University of Kansas have finally decided upon a Chancellor. After two days spent in almost ceaseless discussion. Dr. Frank Strong, President of the University of Oregon was elected to fill the vacancy... He will return to Lawrence with his family about the first of August to enter actively upon his new duties.

Surface will become the third acting chancellor in KU history, the Kansas Board of Regents decided yesterday. Meeting at Kansas State Teachers College, the Regents approved a request mailed to them by KU Chancellor-elect Laurence Chalmers, now vice president for academic affairs at Florida State University in Tallahassee. Chalmers requested that Surface serve as acting chancellor during July and August.

  62. Yates, Ron (February 10, 1969). "Regents announce Chancellor for KU". The University Daily Kansan. Vol. 79, no. 71. p. 1. Prof. E. Laurence Chalmers, Jr., vice president for academic affairs at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla. has been selected to succeed, W. Clarke Wescoe as Chancellor of the University of Kansas. The Kansas Board of Regents announced the selection of the 40-year-old Chalmers at a news conference in Topeka at 11:00 a.m. today. Chalmers will begin his duties at KU July 1, 1969 replacing Wescoe who resigned in September 1968.

Chalmers' resignation was accepted after an executive session during a Board of Regents meeting Aug. 19. During an open portion of the meeting, the regents met with the board and accept the resignation and to appoint Raymond Nichols acting chancellor.
  64. "Chalmers Will Direct Chicago Art Institute". The University Daily Kansan. Vol. 83, no. 21. September 26, 1972. p. 1. E. Laurence Chalmers Jr., former chancellor, has been named director of the Art Institute of Chicago. He was elected by the institute's board of trustees. Chalmer will assume the duties of the position Oct. 1, the institute said.
  65. Isaacson, Gary (October 23, 1972). "Nichols Named 12th KU Chancellor". The University Daily Kansan. Vol. 83, no. 40. p. 1. The Kansas State Board of Regents officially made Raymond Nichols the twelfth chancellor of the University of Kansas at their meeting here Friday. Henry Bubb, regent of Topeka, made the motion to remove the word 'acting' from Nichols' title. He said that Nichols had spent 40 years serving the University and that he thought Nichols should retire as chancellor... Nichols appointment will not affect the Campus Advisory Committee's search for a new candidate because Nichols will not have tenure because his appointment was cancelled. December he will be 70, which is the mandatory retirement age for faculty members.
  66. Isaacson, Gary (April 13, 1973). "Archie Dykes of Tennessee Named 13th KU Chancellor". The University Daily Kansan. Vol. 83, no. 126. p. 1. Archie Reece Dykes was named today by the Kansas Board of Regents as the 13th chancellor of the University of Kansas. Dyke, 42, is now serving as chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dykes will succeed Chancellor Raymond Nichols, who has been chancellor since the resignation of E. Laurence Chalmer Jr. in August 1972. Dykes will assume the chancellorship here July 1.

BUT ON WEDNESDAY, June 4, Dykes, whom some have called "the most popular man in the state of Kansas," shocked officials and friends by announcing as chancellor as 13th chancellor of KU, effective Aug. 15. Dykes will be chief executive officer of Security Benefits Life Insurance Co. in Topeka, the 28th largest insurance company in the nation.

With an outpouring of support, the Board of Regents voted unanimously yesterday to remove the word "interim" from Del Shankel's title of interim chancellor. Shankel, professor of microbiology, was named the 15th chancellor of the University of Kansas and will hold the job until Robert Hemenway takes over in June.
  72. Hood, Matt (January 11, 1995). "King of the Hill". The University Daily Kansan. Vol. 104, no. 75. p. 1. The Board of Reagents named Robert Hemenway, chancellor of the University of Kentucky's Lexington campus, as KU's 16th chancellor. Hemenway is expected to begin at KU before July 1.
  73. Hyland, Andy (December 8, 2008). "KU chancellor to retire". Lawrence Journal-World. In a press conference in December, Chancellor Robert Hemenway announced he would step down from his post effective June 30, 2009.
  74. Hilley, Justin (June 7, 2009). "Atkinson to serve as interim chancellor". The University Daily Kansan. Barbara Atkinson, Executive Vice Chancellor of the University of Kansas Medical Center, will fill the gap between outgoing Chancellor Robert Hemenway's departure on June 30 and incoming Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little's arrival on August 15. The Kansas Board of Regents called Atkinson and asked her to serve as interim chancellor June 4.

Today the Kansas Board of Regents announced that Dr. Bernadette Gray-Little will be the University of Kansas' (KU) new chancellor. The Board voted to approve Dr. Gray-Little's appointment then officially introduced the new chancellor during a special meeting at the Board of Regents' office in Topeka. Dr. Gray-Little will begin her chancellorship on August 15.
