History

edit

Since April 2024, the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) and the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) jointly operate the label Green Key Global, making the label available in the United States.[2] The following year, an entry-level program was introduced, Green Key Ready.[3]

Description

edit

The organization collaborates with other labels in the hospitality sector environmental stewardship, including EcoStay Certified and Greenview. The partnership enables property owners and managers to fund important conservation projects, measure their progress, and be a part of a shared environmental legacy. Through its partnership with Greenview, EcoStay Certified offers a portal system for member hotels to track, measure, and improve their sustainability and social responsibility performance.[4]

The system is based on self-reporting, with facilities receiving a certification of one to five keys.[5]
