Explanation of Wikipedia outlines Outlines on Wikipedia are a type of list article. "Outline" refers to the format of the article, not its topic, which is identified after "Outline of" in the title. "Outline" is short for "hierarchical outline", which is a type of tree structure, in which levels are represented with headings and indented list items.Together, the outlines form a subject classification system, to help organize knowledge into related areas. Because of this, they are one of WP's Contents systems. Each outline serves as a site map for its subject. These navigation aids can help you find your way around areas of knowledge on WP, even when you are not sure what you are looking for. For more in-depth explanations, and instructions on how to develop outlines, see Wikipedia:Outlines and Wikipedia:WikiProject Outlines. There are currently over 900 stand-alone outlines on WP. For the main list of them, see Wikipedia:Contents/Outlines. |
