Needs more non-primary sources to establish Wp notability

edit

Any minute now a Wikipedia admin will delete this page. --Rob Kam (talk) 10:07, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Rob Kam: We need to find more non-primary sources to establish notability. One was present (Between the Brackets) and I recently added one that I could find on Google (Kotaku). We also need to keep the article active (there's auto-deletion if no edits were done in 6 months) while it's in draft, and submit it when we think it's complete enough to pass creation. -Vipz (talk) 01:22, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Agent Isai and others, good work on finding more secondary references and content to add. I suspect we'll need some more before resubmitting for creation, but good progress so far. :D -Vipz (talk) 20:44, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Edit: Nevermind, just noticed it's been resubmitted for creation, fingers crossed it passes. If not, there's space and time for improvements. -Vipz (talk) 20:50, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion

John is a WMF banned user. I thought if I could mention that without some issues. 12.88.178.218 (talk) 12:11, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you can find reliable sources to back up your claims, go ahead. Otherwise no, this article deals with Miraheze and only remotely with its founder. -Vipz (talk) 12:26, 12 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Rob Kam: so what do we do with these? Are you suggesting coverage of Miraheze's founder on this draft article? -Vipz (talk) 00:39, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Although I'm providing sources about John Lewis being blocked by WMF, in case it's of any use, there's already enough relevant information about the founders in the draft article. I'm bringing to attention that reliable secondary sources might not alone be sufficient for the draft to qualify for a Wikipedia article. --Rob Kam (talk) 01:08, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Rob Kam: Reliable secondary sources (coverage) are in fact the only factor in having this article accepted. Citing Wikipedia would instantly lower its chances of going through. -Vipz (talk) 01:19, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

A list of Wp articles that could link to a Miraheze article:

  • Comparison of wiki hosting services
  • Comparison of wiki farms
  • Wikipedia:Alternative outlets
  • MediaWiki

Rob Kam (talk) 19:17, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Aside from Rosetta Code and History of wikis where it's directly mentioned and external links sections on various articles that link to Miraheze wikis. I want to chime in that it's weird no one is picking up Miraheze for a review, interview or recommendation, even though it's hardly an obscure wiki farm in this day and age where corpo Fandom is gobbling up all other competition. -Vipz (talk) 04:49, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Is there any audience for a review, interview or recommendation about Miraheze, (for whatever independent reliable source)? Rob Kam (talk) 18:19, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Possible secondary sources independent of the subject.

All of these are forum or social media posts so they aren't usable, though it's sad to see it go. Even if, getting an article only after a shutdown isn't great. Fingers crossed that a new team forms up to save Miraheze before the planned shutdown. –Vipz (talk) 13:33, 17 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Maybe the list is still useful. Rob Kam (talk) 10:29, 19 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

About my edit

edit

@Alalch E. I see you reverted my edit. Could you explain why? The edit summary "it@" wasn't clear. TripleCamera2022 (talk) 13:30, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I misclicked while using the phone and accidentally saved before inputting the proper edit summary. I then corrected this in my subsequent edit (dummy edit), which contains the actual edit summary that was intended for the previous edit, and it is in this edit summary that I have given my reasons for the revert. —Alalch E. 14:21, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Change of management: It would be useful to note in the article that User:CA/UA left to setup WikiForge/WikiTide and then the 'internal drama' happened, followed by volunteers leaving Miraheze for WF/WT, some staying with Miraheze and a third party offered to keep Miraheze running. Rob Kam (talk) 16:15, 6 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
OK, I see. Thank you for your explanation. I think I'd better wait and see what happens next. TripleCamera2022 (talk) 14:46, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also useful to include would be an answer to "What's the similarities/differences between Miraheze, WikiForge and WikiTide?". Rob Kam (talk) 12:01, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Even Miraheze is lucky to get mentioned here and there in sources, and I doubt WF/WT are going to have any coverage whatsoever anytime soon. This is a question best answered on a dedicated page like the Miraheze FAQ (or some other site to avoid bias). –Vipz (talk) 14:51, 9 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please return this article to draft space

The article was moved out of draft space, not in good faith and before it has sufficient sources to be notable. --Rob Kam (talk) 11:49, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

About the state of the Draft

edit

@HitroMilanese, Rob Kam, and Vipz:

Hello, I don't know if you are still interested in reconstructing this draft, but I have removed all the primary references and replaced them with sources from universities and libraries. My only concern is about “depth”/not just "passing mentions". In this regard, I know that to comply with GNG *generally*, it is necessary to have three or more sources that specifically address the subject. For now, I have found these sources, which I have incorporated into the article. The first is a book that discusses the use of Miraheze in education over five pages. This book was published by UNIRIO in Brazil. My second source that discusses Miraheze in depth is “WikiBeedia.eu,” published by researchers at the University of Graz, in the “Technical Implementation” section, which discusses in detail the use of Miraheze and its features for use in research. I will try to find more sources in European libraries and universities, as Miraheze is widely used there, but I need some basic feedback to know what the draft is missing in order to be suitable for publication on Mainspace. RemindYaImKinda (talk) 19:55, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

You're doing good work on the article, thank you. I wouldn't worry about what the draft is missing; the content can be based on whatever is in non-primary sources and meets Wikipedia criteria for publication in Mainspace. After that, the article can be improved as further adequate non-primary sources become available. Rob Kam (talk) 23:17, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I just want to clarify this because I had to remove a lot of information and rewrite whole parts because I couldn't find secondary sources, for example the WikiTide situation as it is only mentioned in the Official Statements of the website (Primary source) or Social Media/Forums (User generated Content/Self Published = Not Reliable), additionally I had to simplify a bit the part of services and features because of that. Following WP:CSMN, "Remember: it is much better to cite two good sources that treat a topic in detail, than twenty that just mention it in passing. ", most of the article references are mentions some a little longer than others, but I still decided to try to look for sources that are in *depth* that talk specifically about Miraheze, the two sources (The UNIRIO Book + Graz University Paper) that I mentioned in my original message are the ones that deal more in depth with the topic of the article. We also need to make the article comply with WP:WEBCRIT Guidelines. Additionally, I will notify @Alalch E.: who has previously provided valid criticisms of previous drafts but I want to know what the issues are with my take on the article, as there may be other requirements that the article can improve upon.-RemindYaImKinda (talk) 06:05, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the ping. I have seen some of your great improvements in the past 3 days already as I have this draft watchlisted. I am sympathetic to the idea of having the article. The content is now essentially encyclopedic, but the topic still does not meet WEBCRIT, technically, it would seem. —Alalch E. 06:19, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for your kind words :) I'm really glad to hear that my contributions have improved the draft. Even so, the draft still needs some improvements in terms of wording and a little more detailed sourcing for the notability criteria. Doing some research on how I could improve the draft, I've been looking for reports on Miraheze in reliable sources, and I found information on the AV Portal, a scientific platform of the Leibniz Information Center for Science and Technology University Library. From minute 07:28 to 08:00, it talks about Miraheze as a repository of information for the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB.eu) for the “Tutorials in Bibliotheken” initiative.-RemindYaImKinda (talk) 21:25, 8 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Edit conflict

edit

I have recently been aware that there has been an edit conflict regarding the inclusion of two images related to Draft:Miraheze.

I'd like to discuss this issue with the editors of the draft per WP:AVOIDEDITWAR

Thank you for reading.
