Overall:
I'm going to spot-check all instances of refs 3, 5, and 10 in this version:
canonical inquiry
doesn't appear to be supported by the source- nor is
Following this episode, Acquaderni—together with Bishop Macarone Palmieri—became the principal promoter of the construction of a sanctuary on the site, organizing a fundraising campaign that drew donations from across Italy and from Italian emigrants abroad.
, the source doesn't mention Acquaderni - nor is
Economic difficulties, the death of Bishop Macarone Palmieri in 1897, and the disruption caused by both World Wars meant that the perimeter walls were not finished until around 1950
, the source doesn't mention economic difficulties or Palmieri's death - nor is
The sanctuary was solemnly consecrated on 21 September 1975, in the presence of Bishop Carinci—now buried in the sarcophagus behind the high altar—and of all the bishops of Molise
, the source only says construction was completed in 1975 with no further detail
I'm going to stop the spot-checks here as all of the first four have brought up issues, please can you go through the article and ensure the content is supported by the sources cited? In case you used an LLM to translate this, please see WP:LLMTRANSLATE, if this was LLM-generated, please see WP:NOLLM. Thank you Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 23:32, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Dt.fabio: Any progress here? theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 08:27, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
Thank you for the thorough review, @Kowal2701. I am currently working through the four sourcing issues you identified, cross-referencing the article text against the primary sources — specifically Mattei's published history of the sanctuary and archival issues of Il Servo di Maria. I will update the article and citations accordingly within the next few days. I appreciate your patience. Dt.fabio (talk) 12:26, 30 May 2026 (UTC) @Kowal2701 thank you for the careful review. I have now corrected the article and want to account for each of the four issues you raised.
1. Canonical inquiry — A new inline citation has been added to the sentence on Bishop Macarone Palmieri's formal declaration of 23 February 1889: Il Servo di Maria, 23 February 1889, p. 105, as cited in Mattei, Il Santuario dell'Addolorata a Castelpetroso, Grafica Isernina, 1982, pp. 65, 71–73. The existing Marie de Nazareth ref has been retained as a secondary source.
2. Acquaderni as promoter — The phrase "organizing a fundraising campaign that drew donations from across Italy and from Italian emigrants abroad" has been removed, as overseas fundraising was conducted by Don Domenico Lombardo at a later stage, not by Acquaderni. The sentence now reflects what Mattei documents directly: the establishment of a committee comprising the bishop, the archpriest of Castelpetroso, Acquaderni, and others, with Il Servo di Maria as the official fundraising organ (Mattei, p. 65; Il Servo di Maria, 9 February 1889, p. 68).
3. Economic difficulties / death of Macarone Palmieri / World Wars — The three factors are now individually sourced: death of Macarone Palmieri on 27 February 1897 via Catholic-Hierarchy; World War I and II disruption via Mattei, pp. 195–196 and 211; perimeter walls completed in 1950 via L'Addolorata di Castelpetroso bulletin, Anno Santo 1950, p. 260 ("ultimate le mura perimetrali del Tempio"). The word "around" has been removed as the source is explicit.
4. Consecration 1975 / burial of Carinci — The names of the co-consecrating bishops are now cited to Mattei, p. 325. The description of Carinci's burial has been corrected from "sarcophagus behind the high altar" to "beneath the Throne of the Virgin Mary within the sanctuary", per Find a Grave (memorial no. 50858694).
Additional correction — The gallery caption gave Macarone Palmieri's birth year as 1838; corrected to 1817 per Catholic-Hierarchy.
I hope this addresses all the concerns raised. Dt.fabio (talk) 14:47, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Dt.fabio, thank you but my concerns were with the article as a whole, not just those four instances. Can you please look over the article and ensure the text is directly supported by the sources before I do another spot-check? If this one brings up issues I'm afraid I'm going to have to fail this Kowal2701 (talk, contribs) 21:53, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for clarifying your point. I will go over every passage of the article carefully. I am now working to verify all the sources with greater accuracy and, where needed, to integrate or replace them using a historical monograph on the sanctuary. I would ask you for the patience of a few more days. I will let you know here as soon as I am done. --Dt.fabio (talk) 07:58, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
@Kowal2701, I have gone through the entire article, checking the sources and adding references to the monograph on the history of the sanctuary (Antonio M. Mattei, Il Santuario dell'Addolorata a Castelpetroso, Grafica Isernina, 1982) where needed. I have corrected a number of errors and inaccuracies. Thank you for your comments. --Dt.fabio (talk) 07:12, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
