Comment: It's really promising, but I just don't feel like the cited sources show it passing our heightened criteria. References 1-4 are good, but the others miss significant coverage. If you could find just one or two more great sources, I'll gladly accept this. Thank you. Kovcszaln6 (talk) 14:44, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Might be notable; needs sources with significant coverage. Kovcszaln6 (talk) 16:55, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
Comment: For example, source 1 does not state that it "allows you to learn more than 20 lanuages", or "beginner to advanced level". Failed verifications are unencyclopedic and usually indicate the use of AI. Somepinkdude (talk) 13:09, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Wordy is a language learning mobile app developed by Hungarian developer Sándor Bogyó. The app teaches languages by having users watch short clips from real films and TV shows and learn words in context.[1][2][3] It supports more than 20 languages.[4][5]
History
editWordy was created by Sándor Bogyó, who developed the app out of frustration with repeatedly pausing English-language films and series to look up unfamiliar words.[1][2] Bogyó initially planned an interactive subtitle tool aimed at intermediate and advanced learners, which grew into a product that also targets beginners.[3] The project began as an entry for a startup competition before developing into a standalone product.[1]
The app launched on iOS in September 2024 and was covered by TechCrunch.[2] Working as a one-person company, Bogyó built the Android version himself, completing it in about a week and a half; it was released later.[3]
In October 2025, Wordy won the 10 million HUF grand prize of the OTP Junior Piacralépők, a televised business competition for young entrepreneurs organised by OTP Bank.[6][7] In 2025, Bogyó also took part in Y Combinator's AI Startup School.[8]
By 2026, Wordy had been downloaded more than 300,000 times across over 100 countries and held a 4.8-star rating based on more than 13,000 reviews.[1]
Features
editWordy offers a library of more than 15,000 short clips, each a few minutes long, drawn from popular films and TV shows.[1][3] Rather than using traditional textbook exercises, users encounter new words and phrases through these scenes; tapped words are collected into a list and categorized by difficulty, and a separate mode lets users practise frequently used words and phrases.[3][4] The app provides roughly 9,000 words per language, ranging from beginner to advanced level.[1][3]
A streaming mode lets users follow interactive subtitles on their phone in sync with films or series watched on an external service; the app highlights unfamiliar words, shows their meaning, and saves them for later practice.[1][3]
Reception
editApple featured Wordy among its recommended apps, and the app was covered by TechCrunch.[1][2] As of November 2025, it held a 4.8-star rating on both the App Store and Google Play, ranking among the most popular education apps on each platform.[3]
