Walker Boone Hall Barrett (born April 7, 1990) is an American political advisor who has served as a senior policy advisor to the White House chief of staff since December 2025. Barrett served as the senior director for defense policy at the United States National Security Council from January to December 2025.

Early life and education (1990–2012)

Walker Boone Hall Barrett was born on April 7, 1990.[1] Barrett was raised in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, where his neighbor was Susie Wiles, according to Politico.[2]

Career

Congressional work (2019–2025)

By January 2019,[3] Barrett had become a legislative assistant and later director for South Carolina representative Tom Rice, an assistant in the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure,[4] and the legislative director for California representative Jeff Denham.[3] That month, he was named as Florida representative Mike Waltz's legislative director.[3] By May 2023, Barrett had left to become a staff member for the House Committee on Armed Services.[5]

Trump administration positions (2025–present)

In January 2025, Barrett was named as the senior director for defense policy at the United States National Security Council.[6] He was a member of a Signal group chat for members of the council's principals committee that was leaked in March.[7] Virginia representative Gerry Connolly, the ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, sent letters to several participants requesting transcribed interviews on the group chat, including Barrett.[8] In December, Barrett was appointed as a senior policy advisor to the White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles.[2]
