Vivani Medical is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Alameda, California.[1][2] The company develops long-acting subdermal drug implant candidates, including GLP-1 receptor agonist implant programs, using a platform it calls NanoPortal.[3][4] Vivani Medical trades on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol VANI.[5][6]
History
editVivani was formed in 2022 through a reverse merger of Second Sight Medical Products and Nano Precision Medical.[6] According to BioWorld, Second Sight shareholders held about 23 percent of the combined company, which adopted the name Vivani Medical and shifted its focus toward miniaturized subdermal drug implants.[6] Second Sight had previously developed neurostimulation technology, including the Orion visual cortical prosthesis program.[7]
In July 2026, Vivani announced a definitive agreement to sell its Cortigent subsidiary to Nasdaq-listed ClearOne, Inc. If completed, ClearOne would be renamed Cortigent Holdings, Inc., and the combined company would operate as Cortigent.[8]
Technology and pipeline
editThe company describes NanoPortal as a subdermal implant platform for long-acting drug delivery.[2] The implant candidates are investigational.[4]
NPM-139 is a semaglutide implant candidate under development for chronic weight management.[3][4] Vivani identifies NPM-139 as its lead drug implant candidate.[9]
Novo Nordisk evaluation agreement
editIn July 2026, Vivani announced that Novo Nordisk would conduct a non-exclusive internal evaluation of NPM-139.[3] The company said the agreement did not include exclusivity provisions.[3]
