Vincent S. Okonkwo (born September 1, 1984) is a Nigerian film producer, businessman, and engineer. He is the founder and CEO of VSL Media Limited, a production company known for several high-profile Nollywood box office titles, including Ponzi, The Wildflower, and Passport.

Early Life and Education

Vincent Okonkwo [1]was born on September 1,1984. He pursued an academic background in engineering, graduating from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUTECH) with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2005. [2]He subsequently moved to the United Kingdom, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Glasgow in September 2009.

Okonkwo also holds professional certifications in the technology sector, including status as an Oracle 10G Certified Professional and a Cisco Certified Network Associate.[2]

Career

After returning to Nigeria in October 2009, Okonkwo engaged in various business sectors. In 2016, he established Rivadesca Limited, a multifaceted company involved in property development, haulage, hardwood charcoal, and information technology consultancy. He has noted that his experience traveling to over 40 cities worldwide helped shape his global business model.

VSL Media and film production

In 2018, Okonkwo diversified into the entertainment industry by founding VSL Media Limited. His early productions included titles such as Where Lovers Meet, Turning Tables, and Ghost Story, the latter of which aired on M-Net Africa Magic and Amazon Prime Video.

He made his cinematic debut as a producer on March 12, 2021, with the comedy film Ponzi. Directed by Kayode Kasum[3], the film was based on the experiences of victims of Nigerian Ponzi schemes and received a nomination for Best Comedy at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCA).

In 2022, he produced The Wildflower, directed by Biodun Stephen. The film took a more serious tone than his previous work, exploring themes of sexual abuse and gender-based violence (GBV). Okonkwo stated that the film was intended to encourage women to speak up against domestic and sexual assault.[4]

Later in 2022, Okonkwo produced the ghetto comedy Passport[5], directed by Dimeji Ajibola. The film featured a notable pairing of Nollywood veterans Mercy Johnson and Jim Iyke. Okonkwo noted that the film was a story of perseverance in the face of difficulty[6]. He is known for being hands-on in the creative process, often involving himself deeply in scriptwriting, casting, and marketing strategies. The film received the AMVCA nomination for Best actress in a Comedy.[7]

In late 2024, his sports drama Ruthless[8], billed as West Africa's first female mixed martial arts (MMA) film, premiered on the PVOD platform Circuits TV.

In 2025, Okonkwo's limited series The Covenant[9] was released on Netflix, and received a nomination in the 2026 AMVCA awards for Best supporting actress for Sola Sobowale[10].
