Utopia Science Fiction Magazine is an online magazine of speculative fiction edited by Tristan Evarts. First published in 2019, it features stories, poetry, articles, and art from the genres of science fiction and fantasy, typically with an optimistic perspective of the future. [1] A best of its short stories were compiled into a fifth year anniversary print anthology.
History
editFounded in 2019 as an independent literary magazine, Utopia Science Fiction Magazine ran bimonthly. Its switch to quarterly coincided with it paying authors a professional rate.
Authors
editIssues have featured work by Bogi Takács, Robert Frazier, Marie Vibbert, and Beth Cato. Interviewees include P Djèlí Clark, John Clute, Samuel R. Delany, James Gurney, Joe Haldeman, Jeff Noon, and Ken Liu.[2]

Awards and recognition
editIn 2025, Utopia Science Fiction Magazine was awarded a Laureate Award (neffy) for best fantasy magazine of the previous year by The National Fantasy Fan Federation.[4] The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction has praised the "variety" of work featured[5] and Tangent Online further describes Utopia Science Fiction as featuring "stories that shine" while noting that it "does not publish hallmark cards."[6] Vector (journal) writes that "The magazine operates with a reverence for the classics of the SF canon while pushing to explore new ways of living, technology as a friend rather than enemy, and humanity adapting to present crossroads."[7]
