Draft:The Silence After

The Silence After is a 2026 Barbadian horror-drama film written and directed by Stockton Miller. Billed as the first full-length Barbadian zombie film, it follows the collapse of society on the island of Barbados following a failed pharmaceutical experiment. The film was produced by BoardHouse Productions and gained international attention for its "Caribbean lens" on the zombie subgenre. After being acquired for worldwide distribution by Play Now Media, it was released on major streaming platforms including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Plex in early 2026.

Plot

edit

The film is set in present-day Barbados, where a shadowy military-government contractor known as "Building Six" conducts a controversial medical trial. When the experiment goes awry, a viral outbreak transforms ordinary citizens into "ravenous husks"—reanimated, aggressive shells of their former selves.

The narrative shifts away from global catastrophe to focus on a localized, grassroots survival story. A diverse group of everyday Barbadians—including nurses, students, and security guards—must navigate the island's terrain while dealing with the moral implications of government secrecy and corporate greed. The film emphasizes the resilience of the local population and the breakdown of social order in a tropical paradise.[1]

Development

edit

Director Stockton Miller, a multi-award winner in the Barbados 48-Hour Film Challenge, sought to create a "Hollywood-standard" production within the Caribbean. The project was initially teased under the title Into the Darkness as early as 2022. Miller collaborated with co-writers Cherah Belgrave and Brandon Atherley to ensure the script felt authentically Barbadian, focusing on community resilience rather than traditional action-hero tropes.

International Distribution

edit

In a landmark move for regional cinema, the film was acquired by the U.S. distribution company Play Now Media prior to its wide release. This partnership allowed the film to reach a global audience, bypassing a traditional long-term local theatrical run in favor of a broad digital and international strategy. [2]

Release

The film was officially released for international streaming on January 16, 2026. It became available on major platforms including Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video on February 1, 2026.
