Draft:TempleOS Reborn

TempleOS Reborn is an operating system currently under development, based on a modified Linux kernel. The project uses its own custom kernel build, designated in the form x.x-templekernel-vxx.x. The development of both the system and its kernel is being carried out by Mamik Kosyntsev. At the current stage, the project is in development and beta testing.

The TempleOS Reborn project is inspired by the original TempleOS, created by the American programmer Terry Davis. However, TempleOS Reborn is not an official continuation of the original TempleOS and does not aim to fully reproduce it technically. The project is an independent development that uses modern software solutions and a different technical foundation.

History

edit

The idea for creating TempleOS Reborn emerged as an attempt to rethink the concept of the original TempleOS within the context of a modern computing environment. Unlike the original system, which was developed as a completely independent operating system with its own architecture and programming environment, TempleOS Reborn is built on a modified Linux kernel.

The project was started by Mamik Kosyntsev as a personal initiative in the field of systems programming and operating system design. In the early stages of development, the main focus was placed on building and modifying the kernel, selecting a base software environment, designing the visual appearance of the system, and shaping the overall concept of the future distribution.

Concept

edit

TempleOS Reborn is conceived as an operating system with its own visual and conceptual identity, inspired by the aesthetics and ideas of TempleOS, but adapted to a modern software environment. The project combines elements of custom design, its own kernel naming, interface customization, and attempts to form an independent platform based on Linux.

An important part of the concept is not the direct copying of the original TempleOS, but the creation of a new system that preserves references to its style and cultural significance while using a more modern, compatible, and extensible technical foundation.

Development

edit

The developer of the project is Mamik Kosyntsev (born 20 August 2013) — a young programmer involved in designing the system, its kernel, visual appearance, and the overall project structure.

At the development stage, work is being carried out on:

  • modifying and renaming the Linux kernel;
  • creating a custom kernel naming and versioning scheme;
  • changing the visual design of the operating system;
  • configuring the user environment;
  • forming the project’s individual branding;
  • creating additional system tools.

At present, the project does not have the status of a completed product and is considered an experimental development.

Technical features

edit

TempleOS Reborn is based on Linux with a modified kernel that has its own name and version number. It is expected that the system will be distributed as a separate build with modified design, its own identifying elements, and additional configuration tools.

Among the proposed features of the project are:

  • the use of a modified Linux kernel;
  • a custom name and versioning scheme for the kernel;
  • a changed operating system name in system identification;
  • an individual visual style;
  • the use of standard Linux components as a basis for further customization.

Since the project is in development and beta testing, its technical characteristics, component set, and architectural decisions may be changed in the future.

Status

edit

TempleOS Reborn is currently in active development and beta testing. Publicly, the project may be described as an experimental operating system inspired by TempleOS and created on a modern Linux-based foundation.
