Biography
editEarly life and education
editSymona Colina was born on September 23, 1954, in Ridderkerk, the Netherlands, and later moved to Italy.
Artistic practice
editSymona Colina’s paintings explore ideas related to perception, space, and the movement of lines and color. Her work includes abstract and organic forms that reflect both natural patterns and internal visual interpretation. She frequently uses transparency, layered shapes, and shifting perspectives in her practice.
Her painting Storm includes spiral structures and strong color contrasts, while Fairytales features orb-like and cellular forms arranged in layered groups. These works show her interest in organic development, visual rhythm, and the structure of natural systems.
Colina’s work has been included in several art publications, such as Spotlight and Circle Quarterly Art Review in 2021, Jaarboek Kunstenaars in 2016 and 2013, Cohen’s Choice in 2015, Kunstoase in 2013, and Art in Vogue London in 2012.
Themes and approach
editColina’s approach combines abstraction with references to natural growth and spatial depth. She works with color, scale, and form to explore how visual experience can shift between external observation and internal perception. Her work often focuses on the idea of perspective as both a visual tool and a way of understanding space.
