Seguimos Siendo (Luxembourgish: Lëtzebuerger an Argentinien; English: Luxembourgers in Argentina) is a 2025 documentary film produced and directed by Luxembourgish audiovisual producer Daniel Atz and produced by his company Connaissance Films.[1][2] Atz is the founder of LuxCitizenship, an organisation that assists descendants of Luxembourgish emigrants in reclaiming Luxembourgish nationality.[1][2]
Synopsis
editSeguimos Siendo explores the history of Luxembourgish emigration to Argentina. The film recounts how emigrants left the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in the 19th century, beginning with pioneers who settled from 1856 in rural colonies such as Esperanza in Santa Fe Province, followed by a larger wave who travelled to San Antonio de Iraola in 1889.[1] According to the director, emigrants bound for Argentina were required to sign a contract that forbade them from continuing to speak Luxembourgish, which made it difficult to preserve their language and culture; over the generations many descendants came to believe they were of German origin.[1] During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, descendants began researching family documents and uncovered their Luxembourgish ancestry, leading several to reclaim Luxembourgish citizenship and to found cultural associations across Santa Fe, Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires, including the Asociación Argentina Luxemburguesa.[1][2]
Production
editThe film was produced and directed by Daniel Atz, with Astor Schiantarelli — himself a descendant of Luxembourgish emigrants who later settled in Luxembourg — serving as cinematographer and co-producer.[1] Editing was by Karolina Danevska and the original score was composed by Nicolás Pasetti. Filming took place in Argentina and Luxembourg, with Atz researching the 19th-century emigration in the Grand Duchy during 2024.[2] The roughly 52-minute documentary is described as the first film shot in both Luxembourgish and Spanish.[1] It is presented in Luxembourgish and Spanish, with subtitles available in English, Spanish, Luxembourgish and French.
Release
editThe film premiered on 23 November 2025 at the Ciné Utopia in Limpertsberg, Luxembourg, as part of the European Arthouse Cinema Day, having been selected by Kinepolis Luxembourg.[1] A broadcast on Luxembourg's RTL television, in a version with Luxembourgish subtitles, was planned.[1][3]
