Ronnie Fridthjof (born 15 August 1975 in Aarhus, Denmark) is a Danish film producer and screenwriter. He has produced numerous feature films, documentaries and television series, and is associated with the companies Fridthjof Entertainment and Fridthjof Animation. He also founded Fridthjof Film.[1]
Career
editFridthjof has produced works including the animated film Lotte & Totte: My First Friend (2025), the historical drama In Love & War (2018), directed by Kasper Torsting, and the documentary film Armadillo (2010), directed by Janus Metz.[1]
In Love & War won the award for Best Nordic Film and the audience award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in 2019.[2] Armadillo won at the Cannes Film Festival and later received a News & Documentary Emmy Award.[3]
He is also known for producing the comedy films Take the Trash (Danish: Blå mænd, 2008), The Christmas Party (Danish: Julefrokosten, 2009), All for One (2011), All for Two (2013) and All for Three (2017), all directed by Rasmus Heide.[1] He created and produced the television series Heartless, which was selected for the Berlin International Film Festival and later acquired by Netflix and HBO.[4][5]
In 2013, Fridthjof received the Ib Prize at the Robert Awards.[6] Ekko has also included him on its list of influential people in the Danish film industry.[7]
Fridthjof studied at European Film College in Ebeltoft and has served on its board.[8]
Filmcity of Aarhus (Filmby Aarhus) and the West Danish Film Fund
editIn 2020, Fridthjof moved to Aarhus, where he became head of Filmcity of Aarhus (Filmby Aarhus) and the West Danish Film Fund (Den Vestdanske Filmpulje).[9] At the fund he initiated a short-film call with Oscar potential in collaboration with Kim Magnusson.[10] The initiative led to the short film Knight of Fortune, directed by Lasse Lyskjær Noer, which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2024.[11]
Fridthjof Entertainment and Fridthjof Animation
editAfter his period at Filmcity of Aarhus (Filmby Aarhus) and the West Danish Film Fund, Fridthjof continued as a producer through Fridthjof Entertainment and Fridthjof Animation. He produced the animated film Lotte & Totte: My First Friend, written and directed by Mia Fridthjof and based on characters created by Gunilla Wolde.[12] The film was released in Danish cinemas on 3 July 2025, sold more than 64,000 tickets in Denmark,[13] and was described by Nordisk Film & TV Fond as a Danish 2D animated cinema hit.[14]
A 16-episode television series based on the film premiered on DRTV and DR's children's services Ramasjang and Minisjang in 2026.[15] The West Danish Film Fund has also granted development support for Lotte & Totte - Christmas Film, with Mia Fridthjof as director and Ronnie Fridthjof as producer.[16]
