River Bound Express ("RBE") is a country/classic rock band that was created in 1986. Its founding members were Steve Patton (vocals, fiddle, guitar, keyboards), Bill Leftridge (vocals, guitar), Tim Richey (bass), Pat Bentley (vocals, drums) and Jim Pritchett (keyboards). Soon after the band's inception, Frank LaRocca replaced Tim Richey on bass due to schedule conflicts. In addition, around 1990, Brian Hollomon joined the band on acoustic guitar. Sometime in 2006, Curtis Leftridge joined the band with his talent on lead guitar having spent several years with the Kansas City band Thai Braxton.
Originating in Columbia, MO, RBE was born the brainchild of Steve and Bill learning guitar and singing harmonies and inspired by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Alabama, Ricky Skaggs and Lionel Ritchie. On a weekend trip to St. Louis, Steve and Bill were singing "Stuck on You" by Lionel Ritchie and were complimented by Peewee that they sounded "great" (particularly, the harmony). This reinforced the desire to compile a group of friends to create a band.
