Region of Peel Archives is the official archival repository for the Region itself, the local tier municipalities, and their predecessors.[1] Staff noted in 2022 that "thousands of boxes" were on hold by the local municipalities, due to the Archives' storage issues.[1]
Collections
editThe Archives is well-known for being the home of the Wm. Perkins Bull fonds, research of Peel's self-appointed historian in the 1930s.[1] Initial material was a transfer from the Archives of Ontario,[2]
Early donations included the 1898 diary of Mary E. McCullough of Snelgrove.[3]
The Brampton Guardian was the first newspaper in Ontario to donate mid-20th century photos to a public archive.[4]
Facility
editThe 1980s HVAC system was showing signs of wear, requiring staff to use dehumidifiers to manually keep readings within acceptable range. In 2021 and 2022, the HVAC was replaced for $1.6 million. This fee also included the cost of building "a room inside a room," to counteract the heritage structure's faults, and upgrade fire suppression systems.[1]
Outreach
editThe Archives has also arranged off-site exhibitions at venues such as libraries.[5]
The Archives collaborated on a history book about the Caledon fire department.[6]

A joint team comprising members of Heritage Caledon, Caledon Fire Services and the Region of Peel Archives are working together on this history project, with publication timed to coincide with the Town of Caledon's 30th anniversary in 2004.
