Ethel Penny Goodwin[1] is an American R&B/soul artist born on June 3rd, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Early life and career
editGoodwin grew up on Walnut Street in Milwaukee's Bronzeville neighborhood. During her youth, she sang at church with American singer Al Jarreau. She later began performing at weddings, clubs, talent competitions, and bar mitzvahs[2]
Career
editGoodwin's first album, Portrait of a Gemini, was released in 1974. She would later go on to perform at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City in 1989. Goodwin was most popular in Milwaukee's jazz scene during the 1970s and '80s. She is also known to have performed in France, Italy and Japan.
Personal life
editGoodwin worked in the Milwaukee Public Schools system from 1990 to 2012. She earned a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 2006.
