Overland is an American clothing company founded in 1973 specializing in sheepskin sheepskin and leather outerwear. The company was founded in 1973 in Taos, New Mexico, and is now headquartered in Fairfield, Iowa. Overland sells its products through its retail stores in the United States, its catalog, and its website.
History
editIn 1973, the company cut and sewed its first sheepskin coat in Taos, New Mexico. In 1975, Overland opened a retail store in Taos and a second store the following year in Omaha, Nebraska.[1] Overland later expanded into footwear, bags, leather accessories, rugs, and home accents manufactured in the United States and abroad.
In 1982, Overland moved its corporate headquarters from Taos to Fairfield, Iowa, where its office and shipping warehouse are now located. The warehouse's central U.S. location supports fulfillment of online and catalog orders..[2]
The company launched its first website in 1996. As of 2026, it operates 23 retail stores in the United States, primarily in tourist destinations. Recent retail locations include Portsmouth, New Hampshire,[3] Traverse City, Michigan,[4] Chagrin Falls, Ohio,[5] Lake Placid, New York, and Rapid City, South Dakota.[6]

editOverland's primary product line consists of sheepskin outerwear, including a version of the B-3 bomber jacket, a style originating in World War II. The company’s outerwear has been reviewed in fashion publications.[9][10][11]
Other products include footwear, bags, accessories, rugs, and home accents. Marking its 50th anniversary in 2023, Overland released its Heritage Collection, featuring updated versions of archival designs.[12]
In popular culture
editIn the Netflix series Longmire, (2015-2017), the actor Robert Taylor wore Overland's McKinley coat.[13] Overland products have been worn by Prince Harry[14] and Mark Zuckerberg.[15][16]
