Draft:OUTsurance (Ireland)

OUTsurance Ireland (trading as OUTsurance Designated Activity Company (DAC)) is a regulated insurance company that provides personal car insurance and home insurance products in the Republic of Ireland. Headquartered in Dublin, the company is a subsidiary of OUTsurance Group Limited, a South African-based international insurer with established operations in South Africa and Australia.[1]

History

edit

Plans for an Irish operation began in 2022 and early 2023, when OUTsurance Group Limited took steps to enter Ireland’s personal insurance market.[1]

In December 2023, the Central Bank of Ireland granted OUTsurance Ireland to operate as a non-life insurance undertaking in Ireland. The license, part of the European Union’s Solvency II regulatory framework, authorised the company to underwrite car insurance and home insurance policies within the Republic. Officials described the approval as positive news for consumer choice and competition in the Irish market.[1][2]

Prior to its official commercial launch, the company conducted a soft launch of insurance products in April 2024, making motor and home insurance available through its call centre. This period allowed OUTsurance Ireland to test its systems, pricing, and service processes with early adopters and refine operational capabilities ahead of full market entry.[1]

The formal launch of OUTsurance Ireland’s car and home insurance offering took place in May 2024 with an event in their Cherrywood office. The company announced a planned €160 million investment in its Irish business over several years and a target of creating approximately 300 jobs across customer service, claims, underwriting, and support functions at its Dublin headquarters.[3][4] Government and economic development bodies highlighted this investment as a significant commitment to Ireland’s financial services sector and a potential catalyst for increased competition. The launch also introduced the company’s OUTbonus cashback proposition, which returns ten percent of premiums to customers who remain claim-free for three years.[1][3][5]

By May 2025, OUTsurance Ireland marked its first anniversary in the Irish market. The company reported attracting thousands of customers and announced plans to hire an additional 100 staff to support ongoing growth in sales, customer service and claims management.[6][5]
