ONE (formerly CROSS or CROSS Gamechain) is a blockchain-based game platform developed by Nexus Co., Ltd. (stylized as NEXUS), a South Korean company listed on KOSDAQ.[1] The platform provides infrastructure for game developers to integrate in-game token economies and supports both conventional and blockchain-based games.[1] Launched in 2025 under the name CROSS, the platform began rebranding to ONE in 2026 following Nexus's acquisition of the South Korean app marketplace One Store.[2][3]

History

CROSS era (2025–2026)

edit

Nexus, formerly known as Action Square, appointed Henry Chang (Jang Hyun-guk) as chief executive in December 2024.[4] Chang previously led the South Korean game company Wemade and the development of its WEMIX blockchain network.[1][5] During 2025 the company built the CROSS Protocol, described as an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain for gaming, with fungible- and non-fungible-token transactions handled through a component called CROSSx.[5] Oversight of the protocol was assigned to the Opengame Foundation, a non-profit organization established in Zug, Switzerland.[1]

In early 2026 the company carried out a "Mainnet 2.0" upgrade, which it described as a shift toward a participation-oriented network model, and expanded the ecosystem with developer tooling, a stablecoin settlement service, a decentralized exchange and related services.[5][6]

In March 2026 Nexus made its first appearance at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), presenting under the slogan "CROSS, the gamechain" and signing partnerships with the Blockchain Game Alliance, WolvesDAO and Merso.[7] At the event the company also introduced AgentVerse, an ecosystem for AI agents operating on the blockchain.[7]

Rebranding to ONE (2026)

edit

On June 18, 2026, Nexus announced that its board of directors had approved the acquisition of an approximately 89% stake in One Store, a South Korean app marketplace, for about 62.6 billion won (roughly US$45 million).[2][8] The sellers included SK Square, Naver and Krafton, which in turn took stakes in Nexus as part of the transaction; the companies stated that One Store's existing partnerships would be maintained.[2][9] One Store had been installed on more than 38 million devices in South Korea.[3]

As part of the deal, Nexus announced that the CROSS platform would be renamed ONE, with its mainnet rebranded from CROSS Mainnet to OneChain and its native token changed from $CROSS to $ONE, in order to unify the app-distribution business and the blockchain platform under a single brand.[2][3] The company said it planned to introduce a global, blockchain-enabled version of One Store integrating wallet, stablecoin, decentralized-exchange, token-swap, staking and bridge functions.[3]

In July 2026 Nexus unveiled a lineup of nine games to be onboarded to the platform under the ONE brand, including MMORPGs based on existing Korean game IPs as well as new titles incorporating AI-generated content.[10]

Platform

edit

The platform comprises a blockchain mainnet (OneChain), a cryptocurrency wallet, a decentralized exchange, a settlement stablecoin and developer tools such as SDKs and APIs.[5][6] Additional services developed during the CROSS era include a web-based storefront system, a payment service, a streamer engagement platform and a quest-and-reward platform, which the company has said it intends to integrate into the One Store platform.[3] According to the company, games onboarded to the platform apply token economies in which in-game currencies can be converted into on-chain tokens usable within the wider ecosystem.[5]

Games

edit

Games released or announced for the platform include Throne of Chaos, Myth Legends, Frost Kingdom, Rappelz M, Astellia M, Metin: Prelude to Ruin, Tree of Savior M and Gemini Seed.[10][11][12]
