Nijanthan is an Indian Tamil television anchor, writer, and actor. He has worked in Tamil-language media in different roles.

Media career

Nijanthan started reading Television News in Tamil for the state broadcaster Doordarshan, Chennai in 1989.

Nijanthan started as a radio jockey with All India Radio in 1983 and worked for six years. Then he joined Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai. As a Freelance News Anchor he worked in Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai for nine years. He had recognition for his clear pronunciation and diction.

During that period he read news during many political changes that tooks place in the country. He presented news during 1989 election results. He read news when the V.P.Singh government changed in 1990. He read news during Iraq’s aggression against Kuwait. He read news when former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was assasinated near Chennai. He presented news during all election results thereafter. He later worked for several private television news channels like Sun TV. He has headed many news channels like Raj TV in Tamil for many years. He has anchored debate and interview shows for several TV channels in Tamil. He works for YouTube channels in Tamil as an anchor.

Nijanthan has given interview to the web magazine Cinema.vikatan and its YouTube Channel on his media career.

Nijanthan has conducted coaching classes as a visiting faculty in several colleges like Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women  to students in the media studies.

Nijanthan has written 12 Novels. They are 'Megamootam,' 'Puthia Veyilum Neela Kadalum,' 'Babujin Maranam,' 'Suvai Manam Niram,' 'Naan:Nizhal, Peralai,' 'En Peyar, Karuppu Vellai Vaanam,' 'Irul Boomi,' 'Vetridam,' 'Doctor Abichandarin 57 Kuzhandaigal,' 'Mudivukku Munnal.'

Nijanthan has published a short story collection by name ‘Sivappu Moochu.’ He has published a poetry collection by name ‘Ettiparkum Nilavin Kulir.’

His fiction works deal with the relationships, psychological conflicts, socio political influence on people. Crime, punishment, death, liberty are core subjects of his creative works.

He has published his drama collection ‘Azhidhal Kaanum Kalam.’ He has written plays titled ‘Maranathirkum Vazhvukkum Idayil Aaru Nadakangal,’ ‘Oru Nadukkamana Meetchiku,’ ‘Satchiyinmayai Thondiyeduthal,’ ‘Giri Kizhavan Nammadhi Perumoochi Vidugiran.’

Nijanthan has directed his own plays.

Personal life

Nijanthan was born as Syed Fazulur Rahaman to Syed Kader Basha and Namsheet Begum in 1963. He later legally registered his name in Tamil Nadu Government Gazzette as Syed Fazulur Rahaman alias Nijanthan.

Nijanthan was born in the town of Udumalpet, now in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu. He studied mainly in government aided schools. He finished his BSc degree in The New College, Chennai. He completed Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism in Bhavan’s Institute.

Nijanthan started his media career in All India Radio as a freelance producer and RJ. Later he became Television News Presenter.
