Nightride FM is an online internet radio platform focused on synthwave and related electronic genres. It features multiple continuous music streams, curated programs, and community-oriented content. Academic research on synthwave identifies Nightride FM among online platforms used by listeners and creators within the genre.[1]

History

edit

Nightride FM developed from a collaborative group of contributors active in synthwave music, including Z, Vosto, Vaag, Dennis Gruetter (Dennis G), Icarus, Straplocked (Chris Cavache), and Julian Green (Neon Fawkes). Academic sources specifically reference Gruetter and Green in connection with the station’s role in synthwave-related online activity.[2]

In artist interviews published in the same study, Nightride FM is described as one of several online platforms that support music sharing, interaction, and community engagement in the synthwave scene.[3]

Nightride FM provides several continuous streaming channels, including:

edit

Nightride FM produces curated playlists and original programming. Its weekly show, The State of Synth, began in 2019 and is hosted by Dennis Gruetter and Julian Green. The program features artist interviews, new music segments, and scene-related discussion. It is referenced in synthwave research as an example of online radio-based media activity.[3]

Independent music outlet Vehlinggo reported on a guest appearance on The State of Synth in 2025.[4]

Community and events

edit

Nightride FM is listed as a participating group at the 2025 Neotropolis festival, a large-scale cyberpunk- and synthwave-themed event.[5]

In 2026, the video game Street Cleaner 3 added an in-game reference to The State of Synth podcast in a public patch update published on Steam.[6]

Role in the synthwave community

edit

Artist interviews in academic research describe Nightride FM as one of multiple online platforms used by musicians and listeners for music sharing, interaction, and participation in the wider synthwave ecosystem.[1]
