Mos Generator
editMos Generator is an American Heavy Rock band formed during the winter of 2000[1] in Port Orchard, WA United States. Founding Members Tony Reed (Guitar, Keyboard, Vocals), John "Scooter" Haslip (Bass), and Shawn Johnson (Drums) having previously played together in Twelve Thirty Dream Time and other projects. The Band's discography includes twenty-three albums spanning from 2002 to 2024. The Band has toured with Rock heavy hitters such as Fu Manchu[2] and Saint Vitus[3].
History
editThe Band came together after a decade of collaboration between the three founding members[4]. According to Tony Reed, the band's name comes from a bass drum they used to have that got covered in moss.
"When we started jamming and recording demos we didn’t have a name. The original rhythm section and I were old friends and we had known each other for a very long time, something around 10 or 12 years. We used to be together in another band in the early ‘90s and we had this one bass drum that just sounded amazing. Shawn put it away in a garage and it eventually got moss all over it. So we called it the Moss Generator. And then when we went to record the first demos we wanted a better bass drum sound and I said: “... I wish we had the Moss Generator.” And then we decided to call the band just like that, but we took one S off, for some reason, I cannot remember."[5]
The band has consisted of various members at different times with Tony Reed being the only constant member through various iterations. Other members have included Scooter Haslip, Bass (2000-2014; 2022 - present) Shawn Johnson, Drums (2000-2014), Sean Booth, Bass (2015 - 2022), Jono Garret, Drums (2015- present).[4]
After playing mainly regionally for several years, the band was invited to play the Roadburn Festival 2008 in the Netherlands.[6]
