Michael started performing for live audiences at the age of 17. Influenced by his Grandfather Bill DeGroot who performed in the 1920’s and 30’s. Michael attended Indiana University for Music Theory and composition. He was signed quickly to Mecca records and took his band 7Th Sign on the road. Mike moved to Colorado with a few band members, and they continue to play in various forms of that line up. Michael’s latest Band project “The Bold as Love Project” features his original Funk, Rock and Jazz songs with several friends from different projects he’s played in over the years. His newest release “Truth and Soul” spans the spectrum of genres, adding reggae, hip hop and R&B to his already diverse pallet of Funk, Rock and Heavy Metal.
Michael’s style spans the cosmos being influenced by 60’s, 70’s 80’s and 90’s music.
Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the family Stone, James Brown, Miles Davis, Marcus Miller, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana round out some of Mike’s favorite artist and he listens to, writes and records music of all genres as he believes music is the universal language for love and compassion.
