Mia-Platform is an Italian software company headquartered in Milan. It operates as an Independent software vendor (ISV) and provides an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) with cloud-native development tools to manage the software lifecycle for large enterprises.

History

edit

Origins and founding (2014–2016)

edit

The company's origins trace back to Makeitapp, a startup founded in February 2014 by Federico Soncini Sessa and Giulio Roggero. Makeitapp operated as a social network connecting creatives and developers for mobile application development in the Business-to-Consumer (B2C) market.[1]

In 2016, the founders (joined by Francesco Soncini Sessa) established Mia-Platform in Milan, switching from B2C to a Business-to-Business (B2B) model. The new entity focused on providing a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution to manage the lifecycle of cloud-native applications.

Expansion and subsidiaries (2021–present)

edit

In 2021, the company opened an international branch in London, United Kingdom.[2]

To address specific vertical markets, the company established two subsidiaries:

  • Mia-Care (2021): Specializes in digital tools for the healthcare (SaMD) and pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Mia-FinTech (2022): Focuses on the financial services ecosystem and open banking.[3]

Product and technology

edit

Mia-Platform develops a platform foundation designed to manage the end-to-end software lifecycle for enterprise environments. The product functions as an Internal developer platform (IDP) that integrates infrastructure management, data architecture and application development tools.

The technology stack is organized into four logical layers:

  • Infrastructure (Platform Engineering): The platform runs on Kubernetes to centralize infrastructure orchestration. It serves as a governance layer with tools to standardize developer workflows and industrialize DevOps processes.
  • Data Integration: The platform adopts a data fabric approach to optimize data delivery. It implements a Digital Integration Hub (DIH) architectural pattern to decouple backend systems from frontend applications, and integrate data into unified structures.
  • Application Composability: The platform supports a composable architecture based on modular, self-contained software components that represent specific business functions, known as Packaged Business Capabilities (PBCs). The system includes a "Marketplace" (resource catalog) containing pre-built templates, plugins and microservices for software reuse.
  • AI and Automation: The platform integrates artificial intelligence agents to automate repetitive development tasks, generate documentation, and refine workflows.

The company also maintains open-source projects, including micro-lc (a micro-frontend orchestrator) and Rond (a security policy engine).
