Mary Kate Feeney is an American marketing professional, community advocate, and politician serving as a member of the City Council in Framingham, Massachusetts, representing District 3. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the Director of Online Media for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
Early life and education
editFeeney was raised in Framingham, Massachusetts. She attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in Political Science and History.
Career
editState government
editFollowing her graduation, Feeney entered public service in Massachusetts state government. She joined the administration of Governor Deval Patrick, initially serving as an aide before transitioning into communications roles. She worked within the Commonwealth Marketing Office and the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. Feeney was later appointed as the Governor's Director of Online Media, managing digital communications strategy and constituent engagement through the end of the Patrick administration in 2015.
Private sector and academia
editAfter her time in state government, Feeney transitioned to the private sector, founding Dockside Media, a nautical-themed creative agency specializing in strategic communication, digital marketing, and ghostwriting for small businesses and non-profit organizations. Under her self-publishing imprint, Dockside Press, she writes and publishes business literature and serves as the author of *The Marketing Mixtape*, a marketing industry publication, and *The Ham’er*, a localized civic newsletter covering Framingham community issues.
In addition to her agency work, Feeney is an adjunct instructor at Framingham State University, where she teaches capstone-level courses in strategic marketing.
Public service and community advocacy
editFeeney has been actively involved in community governance and civic infrastructure in the MetroWest region of Massachusetts. She is a founding member and current chair of the Friends of Framingham Trails, an organization advocating for the expansion, maintenance, and accessibility of public trail systems, including the Cochituate Rail Trail.[1]
She has held several leadership roles within the local business community, including serving as President and executive board member of the Framingham Business Association and sitting on the Board of Directors for Leadership MetroWest. Within education, she serves as the Chair of the school advisory board for Saint Bridget School in Framingham.[2]
Framingham City Council
editIn 2025, Feeney ran for the Framingham City Council to represent District 3, following the decision of incumbent councilor Adam Steiner not to seek re-election.[3] She won the election and assumed office on January 1, 2026.[4]
As a city councilor, her legislative focus has included local economic development, municipal transparency, and environmental initiatives. She serves as the Vice Chair of the Environment & Sustainability Subcommittee and is a member of the Rules, Ordinances & Ethics Subcommittee.[5]
