Mark Arends (Liverpool, 18 January 1982) is an English actor, writer and theatre director. He is best known for his portrayal of Richard Roll in the TV series Mr Bates vs The Post Office (2024).[1]. On stage he played Winston Smith in the Almeida/Headlong/West End production of 1984[2], Proteus in The Two Gentlemen of Verona at the Royal Shakespeare Company[3] and Hamlet at the Trafalgar Studios in London's West End[4].
In 2012 he founded Make Mend and Do Theatre Company[5] for whom he wrote, directed and composed the original score for the Off West End Award winning Something Very Far Away[6]
