MarcoPolo Airways was an Afghan airline, which operated two services between Afghanistan and Dubai.
History
editMarcoPolo Airways was formed some time in 2003. The first service was flown on December 11th and soon after the second service was flown on December 14th. This information is listed by airlinehistory.co.uk, and so may be false. These flights took their aircraft internationally. There is little information about the aircraft used. Some suggest that the aircraft flown was a Yak-42, other sources say a 737. There is information about this on airlines.net. The airline stopped operations in January of 2004. The airlines website, which has been lost but a forum post seems to tell us of what the airline advertised, showed a Boeing 737 in their livery, though there are no pictures, however, the website listed the airlines flights as on the "new" Yak-42 aircraft.
The airline was formed during the War of Afghanistan as the Taliban took power over the Afghani government[1], leading to political instability in the nation. This is likely a contributing factor to the end of MarcoPolo Airways, as it was highly likely that the airline could not sustain travel with the ongoing war in their nation.
Destinations
editThere is one recorded destination for the airline:
There is no publicly available information about where the airline operated from.
Fleet
editMarcoPolo Airways fleet is also a mystery, with sources listing the 737-600 or the Yak-42 as the primary aircraft for the airline.
