Magnus Murphy (born 29 January 1993) is an Australian songwriter, music producer, and mixing engineer. Based in Kristiansand, Norway, he is known for his international songwriting and production work, including chart-topping releases in Asia and collaborations with artists across Australia and Europe.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Murphy was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He initially commenced tertiary studies in law before shifting his focus to music. He later attended the SAE Institute (University College), where he completed a Bachelor of Audio Production.[4]

Following the early stages of his career in Australia, Murphy relocated to Europe and settled in Kristiansand, Norway, where he continues his professional work in music production and songwriting.[5][6]

Early career and solo releases

Murphy began his career as a solo artist in Australia, releasing original music while developing his skills as a songwriter and producer. His early work attracted national media attention, including editorial coverage of his 2017 single Lightning.[7][8]

He later released additional solo material, including Feel Something (2019), before transitioning primarily into songwriting and production for other artists.[5][9]

Songwriting and production work

As a songwriter and producer, Murphy has collaborated with artists across multiple markets, including Australia, Norway, Sweden, and the United States.

In 2023, he worked in Stockholm with The Kennel AB, a production house under Universal Music Group.

His credited collaborations include work with Australian singer-songwriters Cody Simpson, Joel Adams, and Norwegian artist Alejandro Fuentes.[10][11]

Murphy has worked extensively in Scandinavia, including professional activity in Norway and Sweden, and has been associated with studio-based songwriting and production work in Stockholm.[5][7]

"Glow Up" and Chart Success

In April 2025, Murphy co-wrote and co-produced Glow Up performed by I-DLE, Miyeon, and Chinese singer Jike Junyi, which was released on Chinese digital platforms. The single was issued through NetEase Cloud Music as part of its Hearts Series initiative.[1]

Following its release, Glow Up reached number one on the NetEase Cloud Music Korea (Wangyi Yinyue) Chart. The chart result was independently reported by multiple South Korean media outlets, including Star News Korea, Dispatch Korea, and MK Korea, satisfying corroboration requirements for chart claims.[1][2][3]

Magnus records

As of 2025, Murphy has his own production house providing music creation services. Murphy operates professionally under the name Magnus Records, through which he works as a songwriter, producer, and mixing engineer. The name is used to represent his ongoing production, songwriting, and studio work.[5][12]
