The Lore Group is an international hospitality company designing, transforming, managing and operating hotels and restaurants in Europe and the US. [1]
The company focuses on design, storytelling and community, as told by their Creative Director, Jacu Strauss in a 2023 Forbes article. [2]
Lore Group transforms historic buildings and operates them as hotels, [3] such as Pulitzer's 25 Golden Age canal houses in Amsterdam [4] or Riggs Washington DC, which used to be the Riggs Bank. [5]
History
editManagement
editIn 2022, after the Lore Group’s founder and first CEO Billy Skelli-Cohen, David Taylor became the new CEO and still is as of June 2026. [8]
The group’s Creative Director is Jacu Strauss. Fiona Morgan is the Global Director of Sales, Marketing & PR and Peter Herbert is the Chief Financial Officer. [9]
The Lore Group's European headquarter is at Portman House, 2 Portman Street, London, UK. The main US office is at Nomad Tower, 1250 Broadway, New York, US.
Properties
editIn 2026, Lore Group manages seven hotels with their on-site restaurants and bars. Two in London, two in Amsterdam, two in Washington, D.C. and one in New York.
The first hotel, Pulitzer Amsterdam opened in 2016. The UNESCO Heritage building's restoration was led by Jacu Strauss [10] who temporarily moved to Amsterdam for the project [11] and slept in most of the hotel rooms before starting the design work. [12]
Sea Containers London opened in 2019 after the Mondrian London hotel was bought by the Lore Group. [13]
Also in 2019, the Lore Group started to manage Kimpton de Witt, a hotel in Amsterdam [14] which was the first Kimpton property to open outside of the US. [15]
Riggs Washington DC, the first US property of Lore Group, opened in 2020. [16] The building is the former Riggs Bank's and the hotel design kept a lot of the original features as per a case study by Lutron on the collaboration between Strauss and MCLA Architectural Lighting Design. [17]
Lyle Washington DC, the second US property opened in 2021. [18]
The second London property, One Hundred Shoreditch also opened in 2021. [19]
The most recent property was added to the portfolio in 2024; this was Hotel Park Ave NYC, a New York hotel on Park Avenue South. Its design is linked to the city and the hotel lobby has a Jan Hendzel sculpture, similarly to One Hundred Shoreditch and Sea Containers London. [20]
Lore Group also operates the following restaurants and bars within their hotels: Jansz., Célia, Seed Library, Silver Lyan, Super Lyan and Lyaness.
Collaborations
editRyan Chetiyawardana, aka Mr Lyan is a long-time collaborator of the Lore Group. The award-winning bar owner and mixologist [21] headed some of the world's best bars.[22]
His teams work in the following Lore Group cocktail bars: Lyaness (London), Seed Library (London and New York), Silver Lyan (Washington, D.C.) and Super Lyan (Amsterdam). [23]
Lore Group is also partnered with wallpaper company, Voutsa [24] and D.S. & Durga perfume company that provides bathroom amenities for the group's hotels.
