Kettering Half Marathon and 5K is an annual road running event held in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England[1]. The inaugural edition took place on 9th March 2025 and was organised by RunThrough in partnership with Kettering Town Council and is licensed through RunBritain/UK Athletics.[2]
The event includes a half marathon and a 5-kilometre race, with routes starting and finishing at Wicksteed Park[3].[4] The course is run on closed roads and includes a loop through Kettering town centre, sections passing Boughton House, and rural lanes before returning to Wicksteed Park.[3][5]
The inaugural 2025 edition attracted around 2,500 runners based on estimates.[6]
History
editThe first staging of the event was held on 9th March 2025. Kettering Town Council issued a residents’ letter stating that the 2025 event was expected to involve around 2,500 runners and included traffic management measures intended to allow roads to reopen progressively as the final runners passed each section of the course.[7]
Residents along the route of the half marathon were offered free entry after the event due to disruption from road closures.[7]
The race will return on 8th March 2026, offering the same distances, route and running experience.[8] A 3hr cut off on this race is still in place due to the road closures implemented. [8]
Course
editThis Run Britain/UKA-licensed road race covers the officially measured half marathon distance and is open to runners of all ability levels.[5]
The route follows an undulating course that starts at Wicksteed Park, continues into Kettering town centre, passes through the grounds of Boughton House, and uses country lanes before returning to Wicksteed Park.[5] The course includes sections suitable for spectator viewing near the finish.[3]
Organiser materials for the 2025 and 2026 editions listed start times of 09:00 for the half marathon and 09:20 for the 5K, with an event end time of 12:30.[9]
