The Kala Kendera Jammu (Centre for Art) [1]is an Autonomous Body working under the aegis of Department of Culture , Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The main objective of the Society is to promote , preserve and document Visual Arts besides Music and Literature. [2]

In September 1995, an agreement was reached between the former Governor and the Union Minister for Human Resources, determining that a Multipurpose Cultural Complex would be established in Jammu with financial assistance from the Government of India. [3] Kala Kendra Jammu, established under the auspices of the Union Government of India, stands as a beacon for cultural development in the region. While similar Kala Kendras in Bhopal, Jaipur, Goa and other states have become iconic cultural destinations, Kala Kendra Jammu is on the cusp of fulfilling its envisioned role. [4]
