Jakob Roland Munch (born 8 September 1970) is a Danish professor of economics at the University of Copenhagen. His primary research areas are labour economics and international trade. Since 1 January 2020, he has been a member of the chairmanship of the Danish Economic Councils, making him one of the four Danish economic wise men (vismænd).[1]
Munch received his MSc in Economics (cand.scient.oecon.) from Aarhus University in 1996 and his PhD in Economics from the same institution in 2000.
From 1999 to 2004, Munch was employed at the Secretariat of the Danish Economic Council. Since 2004 he has been employed at the Department of Economics, University of Copenhagen, first as associate professor (2004–2008) and subsequently as full professor from 2008.[2]
He has also served as PhD school director at the Faculty of Social Sciences and PhD programme director at the Department of Economics, University of Copenhagen.
In 2013–2015, Munch was a member of the Danish government's Committee on Quality and Relevance in Higher Education (Udvalget for kvalitet og relevans i de videregående uddannelser).
In 2019, he served as senior fellow at the Danish think tank Kraka.
On 1 January 2020, Munch was appointed a member of the chairmanship of the Danish Economic Councils (the economic wise men), succeeding Torben Tranæs.[3] In December 2025, he was reappointed to the position.[4]
Munch's research focuses primarily on labour economics and international trade, with numerous publications examining various aspects of globalisation's influence on the labour market. He has also conducted research in housing economics, health economics, public economics and environmental economics.
His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals including the American Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of International Economics, and American Economic Journal: Economic Policy.[5]
