The Irish Wolves are a professional Twenty20 cricket franchise based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They are one of the founding members of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), an ICC-sanctioned tournament organized in partnership with Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB).[1]
The team represents the Belfast region and is scheduled to begin play in the league's inaugural season in August 2026.[2]
History
editIn January 2026, the Irish Wolves were officially unveiled as the Belfast-based franchise of the ETPL during a global rollout event. The franchise shares a name with the established Ireland Wolves (the national "A" side), but operates as a distinct commercial entity within the private franchise league structure co-founded by Abhishek Bachchan.[3]
Ownership and Management
editThe franchise is co-owned by a consortium led by Australian international cricketer Glenn Maxwell and Rohan Lund, the former Group CEO of NRMA. Maxwell, who also serves as the team's marquee player and captain, stated at the launch that he aims to build a culture of "fun, family and playing without fear" within the Belfast setup.[4]
Ground
editThe Wolves play their home matches at the Stormont Cricket Ground (also known as the Civil Service Cricket Club) in Belfast. The ground is a regular venue for ODI and T20I matches for the Ireland national team.
Current Squad
editAs of January 2026, the franchise is in the process of finalizing its full roster. Marquee signings and confirmed players include:
