Hunter Drama is an amateur theatre school in the Greater Hunter Region, New South Wales, Australia. Hunter Drama presents a full range of workshops across Newcastle, Cessnock, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter focusing on drama and musical theatre education. The programs are run with world-class drama and musical theatre syllabi designed to cater to each age group and skill level, from 5-18+ years. [1] Hunter Drama also enacts a plethora of amateur shows including musicals, plays, and miscellaneous productions. They usually range from 4-5 productions a year, not including twice-yearly showcases. [2]
History
editHunter Drama was created by founder Daniel Stoddart in April 2007, originally known as Hunter Region Drama School in Glendale, NSW when he was 24 years old. [3] [4] The first class garnered only 6 participants, by the end of 2007 the school had 106 students, growing exponentially from then. Stoddart has explained his vision as a "NIDA for young people" [5]
