Draft:How to Enhance Morality

  • Comment: Thanks for revising the draft. The book might be notable - but the article needs to be rewritten to show this. First of all, just having been cited is not sufficient unless the citations actually discuss the book. So ref 3 is not very helpful, but reference 3 does discuss the book more substantially: For example, Vojin Rakić [[21], [22], [23]] has championed voluntary biomedical moral enhancement, arguing that making the initial decision to enhance oneself voluntarily is the only way to implement biomedical moral enhancement interventions in society without curtailing human freedom. While we agree with Rakić that making biomedical moral enhancement mandatory for all is a problematic proposal, that does not mean that such measures might not be warranted in certain limited special circumstances. Participating in long-distance space missions is not a human right. As such, we think that our argument is compatible with Rakić’s view, for as long as every potential candidate for such a mission is made aware that participating in the mission requires them to enhance themselves. This is an example of a source you could use more in the article. Right now you don't explain what the book is about at all - you could use this source to start to do so, and you can explain that Rakic's arguments in the book have been challenged. I recommend you look at some other artilces about non-fiction books. Also make sure that there are enough sources substantially discussing the book to fulfil WP:NBOOK. Criteria 3 is not fulfilled by one reviewer saying he expects the book to be important. Lijil (talk) 21:19, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: Per the previous reviewer's comments, to show that this book meets our inclusion criteria for books, you typically need to cite multiple sources about the book. The most common way to meet this inclusion criteria would be to find multiple reviews of the book. It isn't enough to include sources have cited the book - you need sources that discuss the book itself in detail. MCE89 (talk) 11:52, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: Accepting this has been set as a Stub, nevertheless we need better sourcing than this. See WP:NBOOK for what you need, ideally 2 significant length reviews of the book by fully independent sources. ChrysGalley (talk) 12:28, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

Wikipedia states the following on its Notability(books) page: "This page in a nutshell: A book is presumed notable, and to generally merit an article, if it verifiably meets through reliable sources, one or more of the following criteria: 1.The book has been the subject[1] of two or more non-trivial[2] published works appearing in sources that are independent of the book itself.[3] This can include published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, other books, television documentaries, bestseller lists,[4] and reviews. This excludes media re-prints of press releases, flap copy, or other publications where the author, its publisher, agent, or other self-interested parties advertise or speak about the book.[5] 2.The book has won a major literary award. 3.The book has been considered by reliable sources to have made a significant contribution to any of the sciences, humanities or arts, or to a notable or significant motion picture, or other art form, or event or political or religious movement. 4.The book is, or has been, the subject of instruction at two or more schools,[6] colleges, universities or post-graduate programs in any particular country.[7] 5.The book's author is so historically significant that any of the author's written works may be considered notable. This does not simply mean that the book's author is notable by Wikipedia's standards; rather, the book's author is exceptionally significant, and the author's life and body of written work would be a common subject of academic study.

Criterion 3 is met here, since the famous Oxford scientist Anders Sandberg (also on Wikipedia) wrote the following about this book:

“Raki´c explains with clarity and rigour how moral bioenhancement can be motivated even without concern for human extinction and why it can be implemented voluntarily. This book will surely become a major reference for the further discourse on how to become better at being good.” —Anders Sandberg, Oxford University (see , page 5).

I added this reference. Could you please therefore return the book on the Wikipedia page?

Analysis

edit

In 2022, both books were discussed at a conference dedicated to Rakić's ethical theory held at the University of Tübingen[9] . Several dozens of the world`s leading bioethicists took part in the discussion of Rakić`s two books[10] In the words of the reputed Oxford scientist Anders Sandberg: “Rakic explains with clarity and rigour how moral bioenhancement can be motivated even without concern for human extinction and why it can be implemented voluntarily. This book will surely become a major reference for the further discourse on how to become better at being good.”[1]
