Located in Glendora, California, in the San Gabriel Valley, the Haugh Performing Arts Center at Citrus College includes the 1,400-seat Performing Arts Center, a flexible-seating black-box theatre, music and theatre classrooms, as well as a 150-seat lecture hall. The Haugh Performing Arts Center hosts professional touring groups, community rentals, and events for Citrus College’s Visual and Performing Arts Department. This Department includes its theatre, dance, and vocal departments, a yearly holiday spectacular called “Christmas Is…” and the world-renowned Citrus Singers.
Director
editThe Director of the Haugh Performing Arts Center is Gilles Chiasson as of April 2026. Chiasson has a strong background in professional entertainment and arts management. He previously served as producing director of the Reprise Theater Company in Los Angeles, working alongside Artistic Director Jason Alexander to produce Ovation Award-winning productions. On Broadway, Chiasson originated roles in "Rent," "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and Baz Luhrmann's production of Puccini's "La bohème," among others. Additionally, he has directed productions in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, and he co-founded the Adirondack Theatre Festival in Upstate New York.
History
editIn the early 1960s, under the leadership of then-president Dr. Robert D. Haugh[1], alliances were formed with five cities in the Citrus College district. Shortly after construction began, the passage of Proposition 13 forced the cities to withdraw their financial support. The building was designed by Pasadena architectural firm Neptune and Thomas Associates and was completed in 1971[2], and the college assumed responsibility for the new Citrus College Auditorium operation. During the next decade, the facility underwent significant improvements, including lobby and seating area face lifts[3]. In 1981, the building was renamed the Haugh Performing Arts Center to honor retiring president Dr. Robert D. Haugh's service to the Citrus community and his commitment to supporting the fine arts.
Citrus Singers
editThis forty-member acapella choral ensemble performs in excess of 30 shows each holiday season, ranging from high-end country clubs in the Coachella Valley to the Rose Parade and the Super Bowl.
They have performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, sung with Melissa Manchester, entertained past U.S. presidents and foreign dignitaries and appeared in classical choral festivals and concerts throughout much of the world. The Citrus Singers also have the distinction of being the only American choir to win the International Choral Festival in Spittal, Austria.
During the holiday season, the Citrus Singers perform approximately 50 caroling concerts throughout the region; traveling as far north as Santa Barbara and as far south as the Palm Springs area; sharing the sounds of the season with a combined audience of well over 16,000 people.
