Gremlins 3 is an upcoming American comedy horror film directed by Chris Columbus from a screenplay by Columbus, Zach Lipovsky, and Adam B. Stein. The film serves as the third installment in the Gremlins film series.

The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 19, 2027.

In January 2013, Vulture reported that Warner Bros. Pictures was negotiating with Amblin Entertainment to reboot the Gremlins franchise.[1] Seth Grahame-Smith was tapped to produce, alongside David Katzenberg.[2] In January 2015, Grahame-Smith stated that the project has been put on hold.[3] In November 2015, Zach Galligan confirmed that the third film would be a sequel and not a reboot.[4] In a December 2016 interview with Bleeding Cool, Galligan again spoke about a third film saying that "Warner Bros. definitely wants it, Chris Columbus wants to do it because he’d like to undo the Gremlins 2 thing as he wasn’t thrilled with it, and Steven Spielberg wants to." He claimed Gremlins 3 is being written by Carl Ellsworth.[5] In an interview with SlashFilm in 2017, Columbus wrote a dark and twisted script.[6] In November 2020, Columbus stated that CGI would not be used for the gremlins and that traditional puppets and animatronics would continue to be used.[7] In a February 2021 interview, Galligan said "It's not difficult to make an educated guess that the cartoon is a way of seeding the younger generation that's not aware of it. If it is successful, if it gets like The Mandalorian-big, then I think Gremlins 3 is inevitable".[8] In January 2025, Deadline Hollywood reported that a film treatment from Columbus for a second The Goonies (1985) film, much like a third Gremlins film, had been put in development by Warner Bros.[9] In July, Galligan stated that the script was completed and was waiting for Spielberg's approval, with Warner Bros. being "incredibly interested" in the project after the commercial success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024).[10] In November, it was announced that Columbus would direct and produce the film, with Spielberg serving as an executive producer. It was also revealed that Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein would be writing the script alongside Columbus.[11][12]
