Gao Weinong (Chinese: 高伟浓; pinyin: Gāo Wěinóng) is a Chinese historian and professor at Jinan University in Guangzhou. He is a leading scholar on the history of the Chinese diaspora, specifically recognized for his extensive fieldwork regarding the Chinese in Venezuela and the broader Caribbean region.[1]
Career and research
editGao serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies at Jinan University.[1] Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has published over 20 books and approximately 100 academic papers.[2] His research focuses on migration patterns, social organizations, and the economic transitions of Chinese communities in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
He is notably credited with documenting the unique "chain migration" of the Enping diaspora to Venezuela. His work establishes that approximately 90% of the Chinese population in Venezuela originates from this single county, a demographic phenomenon he explored through years of primary fieldwork in South America.[3]
