Oyet Francis Opwonya, commonly known as Francis Oyet (born November 6, 1997), is a Ugandan news anchor[1], forensic journalist, software engineer, author[2], and media entrepreneur. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Oyet Broadcasting Services (OBS)[3], an innovation hub and parent organization of The Northern Press[4], Malakal Press[5], and AcholiLink[6]. He is also the Producer and Content Manager of Oroma TV and 94.3 QFM Lira City[7].
Francis Oyet is recognized for his contributions to media innovation, journalism, digital communication, and community networking in Northern Uganda. In 2023, he was nominated for the Founder of the Year Awards (FOYA) under the category of Africa Techpreneur of the Year – Under 30[8].
Early life and education
editFrancis Oyet Opwonya was born on November 6, 1997, in Gulu, Uganda, to Benard Ogwal and Joyce Oyet Atimango. He attended Hillside Annex Primary School before completing his primary education at King James Boarding Primary School in Lira. He later joined King James Comprehensive School for his Ordinary Level education and Ssaku Senior Secondary School in Wobulenzi, Luwero District, for further studies.
Oyet obtained a Diploma of Remedial Technology from the Northern Sydney Institute in Australia. He also attained a WAN-IFRA Certificate in Media Management. In 2018, he earned a Certificate in Leadership and Ministry from Miracle Bible College Rubaga in Kampala, Uganda.
Career
editFrancis Oyet began his media journey in 2008 when he joined the teens’ program at Rapa FM 88.3, a radio station based in Pader District, Uganda. He later worked with several media organizations across Uganda, including Uganda Radio Network.
From August 2022 to September 2025, Oyet worked at Voice of the Gospel 104.4 FM in Lira City as a news anchor, production manager, and news sub-editor. In September 2025, he joined 94.3 QFM Lira City[9] and Oroma TV, where he serves as Producer and Content Manager[10]. In 2025, he also worked for Global Health Network Uganda[11] as Computer science specialist.
Oyet is the founder and CEO of Oyet Broadcasting Services (OBS), a media and innovation organization headquartered in Northern Uganda. OBS oversees several digital and media platforms including The Northern Press, an online news publication focusing on Northern Uganda and national affairs; Malakal Press, a digital publishing and media platform; and AcholiLink, an internet-based social networking and communication platform designed to connect the Acholi community in Uganda and across the diaspora. Through these platforms, Oyet has promoted digital journalism, online community engagement, and local content development.
