The Florida Marine Science Educators Association (FMSEA) is a professional association founded in 1968 to support and advance marine and aquatic science education throughout the state of Florida. FMSEA is a regional chapter of the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) and includes formal and informal educators from schools, universities, aquariums, nonprofits, and government agencies.[1]

FMSEA provides professional development workshops, aquatic species collection training, educator resources, and an annual statewide conference held at rotating locations across Florida.[1]

History

FMSEA was established in 1968 by marine science educators seeking to expand access to high‑quality aquatic education across Florida. The organization grew alongside the development of marine science centers and field‑based learning programs throughout the state.[2]

FMSEA later became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and continues to serve as Florida’s official regional chapter of the National Marine Educators Association.[1]
